New projects for 2012
« on: December 30, 2011, »
As we close out 2011, I'm putting together my to-do list for 2012 (that, and systems are down at work.)  So, I thought I'd find out what my fellow DLA'ers have planned for next year.

On my to-do list for 2012:
  • Mega Tree (2 total - 1 for my house, 1 for PK's)
  • Arches (6 total for my yard)
  • Snowflakes for a rooftop application
  • 6 more LE's (with wireless module)
  • New "Tune to" sign
  • More sequences
  • Who knows what else!

What's on your list?

Steve

Im needing 5 aether II's
Tons of flex strips
SS HUB, SS Controllers, Power supply
2 more LE
Etherdongle, Conductor
Completely new set of sequences

My house will look very similar to crackers halloween house with the flex strips and aethers. I like the clean design and the fact that I can use the same lights for both Halloween and Christmas.

I put my show together for 2011 in a about 3 weeks (sequences, soldering controllers, etc) I am glad that I will have more time to sequence this year.

Make sure and vote in the poll in the porch so we know what stuff we need to coop and can schedule and find people to do them ect.

I think I will be adding --
  • 16 mini-trees (just in RED to start)
  • 1 "mega"-tree (planning to go to 3)
  • 4 more sparkle balls
  • 1 Etherdongle with a conductor board (if they are ready this year)
  • 3 LEs

I'm also looking at a possible Halloween show (thinking just some singing pumpkins, but we'll see if that get's off the ground or not)

I'm also planning to experiment with some RGB stuff this year, but not sure any will make it into my show for next year.

2011 - Year #1
    4000 lights and 16 channels
    5 Songs sequenced
2012 - Year #2
    5000 lights and 123 channels
    8 Songs sequenced

1) Cutting back on SS general use, i.e. roofline etc.. in favor of specific items like the coroflakes (my strings were not reliable this year)
2) Phase out rest of incans in display
3) Add snowflakes for roof
4) use RGB floods to tone down the pace of the show
5) spend much more time actually sequencing in 2012

I guess when I go to his house to put the lights on the roof I will also have to solder up all of the kits  ;D

This year proved it to me. The train and the riding train for the kids were tremendous hits so......

1. Plan much more 3d animations(Band, talking deer, train additions etc) and interactivity for the kids.

2. Complete the multi-head DIY snow machine that has been in the design phase for a year. I have found the proper blower for it. It is a home central vacuum.  Probably just controlled with a manual remote at this point but eventually would like to be able to control it with DMX.

3. Fewer lights but more stations of interactivity

Thanks
Mike

Add a 10ft spiral tree separate from my 18ft megatree
Add 4 more arches
replace incan mini trees with LED mini trees.
put ss nodes on my porch columns and garage door  (the existing LEDs are going to the new mini trees)
get a couple of flexstrips to experiment with

  • Replace all of my LOR with LEs
  • Repair/replace all of my IP67 SS nodes with IP68-level
  • MUCH MORE TIME WITH SEQUENCING!!  INCLUDING RGB MEGATREE WORK!!!
  • Add more coro flakes...  I loved the look of the 2 that I had.
  • Add more Aether2s...  I also loved the look of these!
  • Create a mega tree using cheap flex strips -- they are now $24 each on ebay and I couldn't resist :)

My wife's list...   :o
  • Huge arches over the driveway
  • More arches in other places.

A family that blinky flashes together, stays together!  I get input from my g/f and her daughter on things.  They're fans of arches too, so thus, I'm making 6!  My only "directive" is to not make the house look too gawdy - to which I replied, "is that even possible"?  LOL.

Im also doing something similar to crackers awesome house, I just love clean straight lines with rgb lights. My original plan was to do a Halloween light show only but due to all the work needed to put lights up I decided to extend it for other holidays.

Custom made coro stuff for Halloween and winter holidays.

Im trying to make singing faces with the smart strings instead of rope lights.

I hope to get a few aetherII's (4 at least).

Etherdongle with Conductor!

Outdoor speakers for people that can't park their car close to enjoy the show and fm transmitter for the ones that do.

And finally I hope the grumpy ladies from the HOA let me keep the lights up from October all the way to January.
