For lack of a nail, a shoe was lost
« on: November 28, 2012, »
I have a holiday coro 3 ring star. I assembled it, extra shrink tubing. I designed a mounting system using angle aluminum, 3/4" pvc pipe filled with 3/4" oak dowel. Light, Sturdy. I am pretty proud.

Then i look to see how to program the 3 dmx controllers. Contact David with my oops, he says i need a special programmer. I order this about 10 days ago.

Today David contacted his customers saying the order coming in from China via Canada, order got stolen. Fedex thinks they can find it. Nope, its lost. David is hustling to get another order.

2-3 weeks. So do i build the megatree without the star?

Luckily i happened to have ordered 80 rectable 1804's from Ray. I planed on making luminarias and make a matrix in the front lawn.

scratch that, i will replace the dumb rectangles with my smart ones.

Use an exacto and scrap hot glue from the 60 dub rectangles. Repair holes in the coro.
Now, I am checking the rectangles , 10 are bad. Luckily i only need 60.

when this is all over, i will be glad i did this. I now will have a 3 ring star with smart LED's. I will build effects for this star (30 in the outer ring, 20 in the middle, 10 in the center).

I can also remove the two heavy power supplies and the dmx controllers. The star is now way less than half the weight it was before. One cat 5 going up 20' to the top of the star.

This will turn out better.

I am having a lights on party Friday at 6pm. I only have two songs sequenced.

I have put up 64 snowfall tubes in my tree
6 arches, 24 pixels each

2 window, 7 segments each.

I am hoping to get megatree up tomorrow. Still need to hang 6x128 strings on the eaves.

and a few bugs for nutcracker.

tis the season ...

What will Friday bring? I have already sent out invitations to all my neighbors. Hot chocolate and mulled cider.

thanks

The original quote was
"
For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail."

For one stupid little cable, my entire megatree has been on hold for over a week.

Like I said, I think in the years that come, i will be happy that someone stole the shipment.

Wish I could send something to help out.  With everything you have done for this group, you don't deserve to have this happen.  What would it take to get you through this from a hardware lighting side?

I'm willing to help....

Great news! It is all fixed. I removed 60 rectangles, put epoxy into holes created when I removed the 3 DMV controllers. Hot glued 60 new smart rectangles. Now, I am going to cut down sides of star to half their height.

With dumb strings the 3 inch height helped blend the colors together. But, now I can make nutcracker patterns, I want the individual pixels to have a little more definition.

I should be putting up my mega tree today.

Yeah!
