Smart String Floodlight?
« on: January 02, 2012, »
since i can't just stop playing around with this stuff,

I sorta made a floodlight using the rectangle nodes.

i took, a 18" x 24" piece of coro, and stapled my plastic rectangles to it. not to shine through it, but just to keep the rectangles all facing the same direction.

i used 30 plastic rectangles.   let's just say it lights up my whole basement!  i cannot film it with any camera, becuase it just comes in a a bright light,

This might be a silly question, but what is "coro"? I've seen many posts mentioning "coro . ."

"coro" short for coroplast is corrugated plastic.  like many quick signs are printed on.

Coro (corrugated plastic) is a favorite material because it is relatively inexpensive, you can make all kinds of shapes, and it diffuses light well.  You can throw a small number of bulbs behind it and the light glows pretty evenly through the material.

David Moore (HolidayCoro.com) has a lot of great examples of its use!

Here is an example of coro in its simplest form. Black magic marker for the sign info, and LED lights shoved into the corrugated channels make the whole thing light up at night. Left a few lights hanging off the top for a bit of front lighting too.

it's plastic, but the construction of it looks like the cardboard in a cardboard box.

i just used mine to be able to staple the nodes...  i'll get pictures tonight

I created a coro box, hung rgb pixels inside, and connected them to a cheap controller that I let cycle through its test pattern.  I tied the box inside a steel real estate sign frame, and the same message was visible from both sides.
