« on: May 27, 2012, »
Spent yesterday running my Camaro on the famous 3.7 miles of sebring raceway  ;D

Had a great time, my oldest son run his miata so if was a great day for the whole family.

Posted a few pics, first is me on the breaks hard setting up for turn one.

The second is me out of turn 17 going for the finish line to start all over.

The last picture is the long back striaght 130++ mph while staying legal is so much fun. I just love fast cars!

Yeah,  Really Cool

I did this several years ago at the Texas Motor Speedway in my Vette. My wife only lasted for one set of laps. I guess she didn't like going that fast ;D

On the other sets laps I took kids for a ride for Children's Miracle Network.
That was so neat to see the smiles on their faces.

P.S. I didn't know Cameros could go that fast :)

Just kiddin RJ

looks like it was a blast! Closest I have got to that was driving my 1970 340 Dodge Dart at 130 mph (with no hands on the wheel) on the high bank oval at the Chrysler proving grounds in Chelsea MI.

Glad you and your family can enjoy the sport! I used to drag race a 69 Camaro and was running 133 mph through the traps (finishline) of the 1/4 mile. Wish I would have done road racing. Looks like a real kick in the pants!  <;d  :D

Ah, yes the need for speed...  A few years ago a friend of mine who owns a Lola T70 let me behind the wheel at Texas World Speedway for a morning of seriously hot laps.  What fun!  That thing felt like it was glued to the track.

Love Sebring, what a great road course and those old concrete air field sections...  Nothing like those expansion strips/seams to test the fillings in your teeth.

Sorry for the delay in response been getting ready for the trip to the academy.

Yes it has a small amount of work but nothing big. No Blower or such. Pushing on the dyno correct to flywheel 455-460 H.P. depending on the run.

the 130 ++ figure is for the road course. I have had it to 157 mph before. Yes the limiter is removed as they come with a 155 mph limiter to keep idiots from over running the tires max speed. It can do more but then the tires become a concern.

Sebring is really a great track as the imperfections of the different types of surface give it a character the perfect surface super courses do not have.

The wide sweeping curves like #1 and #17 give you turn speeds most road courses do not offer. but the tight flat turns get you into the brakes hard. I mean with 3.7 miles and 17 turns it is a track that has something for everyone. Does not hurt that it is only 15 miles from my front door either!  :)

Gezz sweet little motor  and car.  Be fun to find a set of tires and just see what it would do.  big guess here, did you tune it?   Read an article on Ed Koerner chief engineer for the Gen III / Ls series motors.  Everone was going OHC motors but he stuck to the push rod motor  and from what I read it was a big internal battle in GM over the gen III vs OHC motors.  Anyway  good  have fun at the Academy    <res.

The lolas are nice cars. I have been to where they are built in St Augustine Fl, my car buddy owns a machine shop and he makes custom parts for them.
