Common extra parts.....
« on: July 01, 2013, »
I'm going to be making an order at mouser soon for the parts to add wireless to my LEs and (to make the shipping worth while) was looking for parts that are common replacement items.

Thanks!

There are several threads about this topic including one that I think was started last month.  You should get lots of ideas there.

With all of the new equipment being created and older equipment falling out of use, that would be a nightmare to maintain.  What might work would be an addition to the device manuals that can list the more common failure points, along with the part numbers and procedure to repair it.  These sections could be updated through the life of the device and would remain specific to the version of the device.  If a device update uses a fifferent part number than the previous one, there would be no confusion as to which one to get and if the part is no longer available, a substitute part number can be added there.

I could see it either way (in the docs) or a single page that listed things by product. From the other thread people seemed to focus on Triacs for the LE, so I grabbed a few of those in addition to what I was already buying.

So, something like:

Common Parts
Lynx Express
  • Triac
  • LED
  • Optocoupler

Active Hub

Passive Hub

And so on...Would give you one stop shopping for parts you might want to keep on hand depending on the equipment you have in your show. It might be handy to link them from the page right to the mouser part...maybe.

The problem with a list like that is sometimes part numbers change and sometimes different devices use different versions of the same part.  While a simple list like this can help, it still requires a lot of added work to make sure that you are getting the correct part, especially for a newbee.
