Do they fade b/c of UV light breaks down the coating?

is it because the coating just wears away (oxidizes, or erodes)?

and if you dipped it in a sealant that was UV protected, did it help?

I've seen a lot of mini lights where the color coating on the bulb has chipped away.

They fade because of both wear as well as UV breakdown.  That UV sealant will act like as insulator and may overheat the bulbs.  This is another advantage to LED's.  They actually emit the color of light that they are and are not affected by coating breakdown or wear.

OH GREAT

That means all of the time I spent on DLA I am getting dimmer  <fp.

Maybe its a good thing the cheap walmart lights died so fast, no live dimming. Oh the horror of lights

Never mind
