Cut to length light strings
« on: January 11, 2010, »
My understanding is that c6, c7 and c9 incandescent strings can be cut to custom lengths without any adjustments, while with the minis you can't.  Is this true?  Also, using the c-9 and the retro leds does this make any difference in whther you can custom cut to length?

Yes that is true (as far as I know :)

100 count minis can be cut down to 50s
Rope lights can also be cut

What about the m5 ad m3 LED strings? On each end of the string they have an egg shaped thing. I don't know what it is, but I would guess that it is needed.  Can I take lights out of the middle?

Hi John,

The M3 and M5 LED's are wired in series like the 100 count minis.  The egg shaped thing you are referring to is more than likely a resistor and is necessary.  if there are two on your strand you may be able to cut it in half  (e.g. if there are 70 LED's, you can make two 35 count strands from it.)  I'm actually in the process of modifying some LED sets I have and this is how I understand the ones I bought to be wired.
