Mega Tree using Smart Strings
« on: April 21, 2011, »
When you use Smart Strings for a Mega Tree do you need to support the lights or can they hang from the wire?  I thought RJ had commented on this but I can't find it.
Thanks,
Jim

If I recall, RJ mentioned it in one of his videos showing his mega tree.  He said the strings are fine alone if all they are supporting is their own weight.  His issues arose when he was using the strings to support the lower ring he had forming the bottom of his tree.  The weight of the ring was too much for the strings to support.
In other words don't use the smart strings as support cables for other parts of the tree and you should be fine.

Hi Jim

The node strings can NOT support their own weight. RJ used rope for his tree last year and tied the nodes to the rope. They will pull apart and expose the pcb to water.

Cheers

The paracord support was the way I was going to do it too.

Anyone have a best price for paracord?
The best I could find was $43.90 shipped for 1000ft.
