I looked at the user manual for Rainbow spot lights & see how to wire the RGB to the Cat 5 my question is that there is also a black wire coming from the spot what does that connect to on the Cat 5?

that device would need to be connected to a cat5 to be controlled by the rainbow brain.
using a standard 586-b wire cable on the other end, the other end would be used as...
Orange Strip Red +
Orange Solid Red -
Green Strip Green +
Blue Solid Green -
Blue Strip N/A
Green Solid N/A
Brown Strip Blue +
Brown Solid Blue -
to connect to the V1 rainbow spotlight, you dont need anything, plug plug in a straight through cat 5 cable.
depending on how the v2 spotlight is switched, it's one of the following
if it's the positive side that switched...
Orange Strip Red +
Orange Solid Black
Green Strip Green +
Blue Solid
Blue Strip
Green Solid
Brown Strip Blue +
Brown Solid
If it's the negative side that's switched
Orange Strip Black
Orange Solid Red -
Green Strip
Blue Solid Green -
Blue Strip
Green Solid
Brown Strip
Brown Solid Blue -
-
so using this spot light hooked to Cat% black wire is not used.
Correct?

Mike, I am assuming you are speaking of the v2 Spotlight so all of this goes in reference to the v2 light.
The spotlights were designed with using pigtails only. We have adapters in production that will be available in the next 2 weeks for everyone to convert their cat-5 to pigtail connections (or visa-versa). All the Rainbow lights share a common poisitive connection (+12VDC). What that means is the black wire on the pigtail is the +12VDC connection. That black wire should be soldered to the "COM" hole of the light. The other colors (red, green and blue) control each color's negative side and get soldered to each hole as labeled. (I always believe that all DC devices should do their switching on the negative side, so all the lights are designed that way).
Now, if you are wiring the lights to a controller other than the Brain, (ie: Lynx MR16, LOR DC controller, d-Light DC controller) they all share a common positive connection. This means that you only need to put that black wire on one of the 3 channels positives jacks. For instance a typical non-Rainbow Brain setup would look like the following:
Channel 1 + Black wire
Channel 1 - Red wire
Channel 2 + empty
Channel 2 - Green wire
Channel 3 + empty
Channel 3 - Blue wire
If you are using the Rainbow Brain and want to make connections with cat-5 cabling, than you will do the following:
Channel 1 + Orange Strip
Channel 1 - Orange
Channel 2 + empty
Channel 2 - Blue
Channel 3 + empty
Channel 3 - Brown
Again, you only need one wire to handle the positive side.
Hope this helps a little bit more.

Thanks Greg that was what I was looking for the non brain wiring.

Ponddude since our mini is next weekend I can't wait a couple of weeks for your cat to pigtail converters so is it the solids or stripes that I connect to the com wire? I sent you a private message on another forum but you haven't noticed it yet.

Hi Keith,
Sorry, I just checked the LOR boards and noticed I had several PMs. I don't seem to get an email when I get new PMs anymore...
Anyway, if you want to connect all the wires together you would connect the orange strip, green strip and the brown strip.
Also, I just received word that the adapters will be shipping on Wednesday, so I will have them on Friday. I will update the store as soon as they come in.
Thanks,
Greg

I replied to your pm over there. I have a question about this years vs last years flood.

if you're pm'ing, you don't have to post in a thread : )
