Title: LOR idmx help
Post by: i1uhrace on March 03, 2010,
So I completed 3 express boards and am running them with LOR and idmx. They test fine individually with the hardware utility but when I try to run a sequence it doesn't light the lights. The Idmx is set up as A0 so on my sequence I have the first 16 channels listed as A0 1 thru 16. What am I missing here?

This is one the LOR gurus here will need to help you with. I have never used it so I do not even know what A0 is?  <pop..

Couple of things here...

LOR to DMX translations...in your case...go like this

LOR A0 is DMX 1
LOR A1 is DMX 17
LOR A2 is DMX 33
and so on...

Make sure the LE's have the DMX addresses set correctly.

If you are using S2, does the status light go solid on the iDMX when the sequence editor is open?  Make sure you have "control lights" checked under the tools option.  If the boards work correctly in hardware utility, they will work with the sequence editor, you just have a setting off somewhere.

RJ, A0 is the numbering system LOR (and most commercial companies) use.  It is based on the hexadecimal system.  IDK, I was never good at algebra either. :P

I am using S2. The check is on next to control lights. The light on the iDMX is blinking it should be solid?
Not sure what to set the LE addresses to. Am I correct in thinking 001? 002? 003?

Stupid question.  Have you put in the license key yet?  Per the download link, it says that it will not control lights without it.

Yep. I've been using LOR for 3 years now so all that has never changed.

Sounds like the comm port number is wrong in the sequencer software.

Maybe you did not get saved in the hardware utility setup.

In the Sequence Editor, go to EDIT>PREFERENCES>NETWORK PREFERENCES and check the comm port number. is it the same used when checking the IDMX with the Hardware Utility?

Ok, one more idea, should have been my first one though...

Did you make your "crossover" cable  to cross Cat5 pins 5,4 --> 1,2?

or alternatively,

your XLR-Cat5 adapter using XLR pins 2,3 to Cat5 pins 2,1?

If you have 3 LE's, you want the start channels to be 001, 017, and 033

If you aren't getting a solid status light than the problem is the iDMX isn't getting the signal from the SE. Check the comm port setting.  As soon a you open the SE the light should go solid.

Cool thanks I'll check that when I get home.

Also remember that there are 2 light on the iDMX.  One is the DMX light which should always blink.  The other light by modular jacks is the status light.  That light is what should be solid.
