You are missing the Fuses.   Was there a thread on the fuses not being part of the COOP.

Not a big deal.

Yeah I didn't get any fuses. I got them last year but were not part of my packages.  I looked through all my packages and didn't get any of them.

I have the wireless headers from my version 1 boards, I just didn't get around to it.

Were supposed to get another 12" of snow in Jersey over the next 2 days, so I will have plenty of time to work on my other boards ::)

Not totally done yet, but made it to the first test to check the 3.3v and 5v lights. THEY WORK!!!! I know, seems kinda dull to the pros, but as a first time builder, I am completely excited! And on top of that, it was fun to build! Lets get these coops going- I have a new hobby and will soon be running out of things to solder!

Final test complete I have blinky, hooked up lights all is good. I have a ? do you have to pull the EX/RX board when you hook up the dongle with a cat 5 cable or just put the jumper on for not wireless I have pulling ex/rx off express didn,t want to  <md.. anything up but would like to leave it on .
Title: Re: Ver 5 Build

Wait for RJ or someone more experienced to answer for sure, but I believe the jumper just tells the unit where the information is coming from. I think you can still have both Cat5 and EX/RX hooked up at the same time without hurting anything.

Just jumper it and you'd be fine

OK I left EX/RX on and no blinky this is what i tried and still nothin

                        1)   LE left jumper on wireless and on terminate on the EX jumper on uni 2 (nothin)

2 )   LE took wireless jumper off left jumper on terminate , left jumper on uni 2 on EX ( nothin )

                         3)    Tried a bunch of different ways and no luck

Can someone tell me what to do

Ok, just want to be sure.  You've put the V5 together, and the on board test works fine?  Then you're trying to use a wired dongle to send DMX, but it already worked with the wireless?  Or just worked with the onboard leds?

Not exactly The LE works with lights when hooked up by cat5 cable but when I plug the EX on the LE I lose the lights as long as I leave the EX off everything is fine , I asked earlier if I could leave the EX plugged in even though I was hard wired it was said I could just leave jumper on so I tried it and it didn't work so I removed EX and it works fine

Can you try with the EX/RX onboard, and the wireless jumper in place.  Then hit the reset button and see if that causes the unit to work with the wired dongle?

Did you remove the jumper to get the wireless?

If just the EX/RX isn't work, double check the solder joints on the headers for the EX/RX.  Did this EX/RX work before?

Sorry for yhe confusion let me try it again. LE works great when hardwired to dongle ( cat 5 cable ) I have built a EX/RX and wanted to leave it on the LE when i am hardwired I do not have a transmitter yet. When I plug the Reciever on the LE the christmas lights don't work I still have all 3 LEDs on the express if I take the reciever off the LE all the christmas lights come back on. CAN YOU HAVE THE EX/RX ON THE LE WHEN YOU ARE HARDWIRED ( the jumper is on the wirless on LE and the terminate is on ) MY objective was not to pull EX/RX every time when testing  and not to lose that little bugger LOL

Ok, trying the longshot, but it was a simple try.  I'd start looking for solder joints, etc, around the wireless connectors on the LE.  If the LE won't run tests with the module plugged in, it may be shorting the pic, I'm guessing.  Is the LE running tests, and scrolling the display with the module plugged in?

With EX/RX plugged in after test #2, #4 Leds are lit THE #3 dmx is not , without EX/RX after test all leds are lit 2,3,4, I'll check back of le were EX/RX header is soldered

You can not have the EX/RX plugged in when using the system wired. The jumper takes the rs485 chip out of circuit not the other way around. Remove the EX/RX and it will all function fine. Or put it on and run wired and it will all work fine.

Let me see if I understand  , if my LE is hooked up to the dongle via Cat5 then I must remove the EX/RX off of the LE is this correct no matter where the jumper is correct ?

Yes, The jumper is not to allow you to leave the EX/RX hooked up. If you look back at the post on this you will see it's purpose was to prevent people from having to remove the RS485 chip and risk damaging it or losing it everytime they went back and forth. If you have a RX on the unit it expects to be wireless.

Does anyone know what size fuses the LE takes ? It says on the bom 250V 20A but does not give the physical size . I am not smart enough to figure it out .  Thought I would see if Radio Shack has any. Thanks!!
Title: Re: Ver 5 Build
Post by: ponddude on March 01, 2010,
Right from Mouser's website...

   31.75 mm L x 6.35 mm W

As long as they are 250V 20amp fast acting fuses, you should be ok.  Radio Shack should have them.
