You see these things on HSN.  It is a mono-color laser projector.  The ones on HSN look ok but IMHO, they would work best as filler light in a static display.  I may look into getting a blue one for my pool this summer.  Just remember that just like any laser type light, they need something to reflect off of so while the picture of it being shot into the tree does look cool, in that picture the tree has leaves.  I don't think that you will get the same effect on a leafless tree in the winter.

I would also be concerned about stability of the mount and where these things are pointed, or could potentially be pointed.  <yk..

The sparkle magic lights are also crazy expensive. i just buy a bunch of these cheap lasers, and make a case to keep the rain off them. They are way more powerfuil than you'd expect, and seem to retain the last pattern setting when powered off/on, so you could control them with a LE.
You can get 8 of these for the price of one sparkle magic.

+1 on the cheap ebay lasers. Went with 12 of them this year. Looked great and tear down was 1/2 hr.

Watch out for the power supplies in the rain though - lost two of them but the lasers are still good. They will get sealed next year.

A house by mine uses these in the front yard for Christmas time. The people point them into their trees. The effect is really cool, especially when the wind blows and the trees move. All the laser dots make the tree look like it is shimmering. The price, in my opinion, is not worth what you get though. It is a static effect, so it is only so cool for so long. I personally do not have any, but have looked into the effect for my light show. I would probably mess around with the eBay option before the sparkle magic option due to the price. For the price of the sparkle laser, you could get a small dmx laser in which you could control the colors and such, if you wanted to.

Not totally static. They can be set to constantly moving or respond to sound. The cool effect happens when you point two multi-colored devices (ebay type) at the same tree from different angles set to constantly move...and THEN the leaves blow in the wind!
...then you can use an LE to turn it on and off if you choose.

I tried but gave up when it really didn't turn out on the video. Not sure that filming around dusk would have helped. I think its too dim because its reflected light not an actual source like a bulb but it does look great IRL.

I did not realise they wer that cheap. I have 2 trees in the front that would cost a fortune to put lights in and this might make a decent option. Right now I just use RGB floods

keep searching - they get cheaper. I think I got mine for just under $10. Then you need something to seal them in (plastic container). I just laid my boxes on the ground and put a shim under the front end to aim them up into the trees and the side of the garage. Quick and Simple.

Like anything, you get what you pay for.

Which is a good thing when you look at these things.
