Title: Support for a new C9 Pixel
Post by: bwhite505 on January 30, 2013,
I saw these on DIYC and was wondering if the SSC's could be adapted to make this chipset (WS2811) work? They are 12V and look to be well made. They are also being offered in various spacing options and the wire is green. I have seen video of them with various testing done.  They have been submersed and frozen and kept on going.  If the chip cannot be supported by the SSC's do you think Ray could produce a similar type with the chips our SSC's would support?

Just a thought.

RJ is not supporting the 2811 chip set

As far as Ray adapting them to work on the 1804 chip that can be done with enough demand from the users on DLA
Ray has recently added a new string of lights for the 1804 so its possible.

I could be wrong but they were just c9 cover add ons.

I've seen these, but don't know if they work.

I am using the covers on my SSs and they work well. Some don't fit perfectly, but I have been able to make them all work.

The ones that didn't quite fit - were they too loose or too tight? Are they designed to just be a snug friction fit on the outside 14mm body of the SS pixels?

Both, some were loose and some would not go on very far, but most of them fit snug just the way they should. Keeping in mind that the different fit is because of the inconsistency of the nodes not the covers.

I have kinda been following these c9's.  I think these will be much brighter than our stuff.  Dual 5050s per light...  Truthfully a c9 incan is much brighter than the SS node.  These new ones might be closer to a c9.

You may be correct, but I was very happy with the brightness of mine. I outlined my entire roof with them. I will try and get a picture or video of them and post.

I think the nodes are bright enough for our purposes but they do not go head to head with c9's.  I know a few die hard c9's guys...  It's basically a density or look thing.  c9s with 12" spacing vs nodes at 3".

I totally agree Sam. I did have mine set to an 8" spacing though, but you are correct they look nothing like an original C9!

I have not yet seen any LED C9s that look great.  The ones I've seen sold in retail stores seem to think putting a c9 cover over a mini LED makes them equivalent.

the best C9 led's i'e seen were the retro fits that have 5 leds in the base.  but they are single color.

the link i posted early is of a 1804 node built inside the c9 cover, rather than just buying covers to put on your existing nodes. the cover won't slide off, it's physically a part of the node.

does anyone have them?

Just put a dab of clear silicone on  the node before you add the cover and the cover becomes part of the node.

Same here, overall I was pleased. They looked great on the house. I would also like to see some c6 or g? sized covers just for a different texture / look.
