So I thought I heard somewhere that I could cut store bought C7 strings to the lengths I need and put a spt2 vampire plug on the cut end. The wire seems to small for the plugs! What am I doing wrong? Do I need to use spt1 plugs?

why not just put the original plug back on it? solder and shrink wrap. that's what i'm doing to mine. works fine and still has a clean look.

Probably because he wants to make more than one string out of them.

Yup, I want to cut the string at the ending point and then use the remaining lights at another location.
