OK somewhere I know I had seen a video RJ filmed that shows him assembling the Wireless EX/RX with an SSR4 and the case. Anyone one know where that one is. I admit I am search challenged and all of the ones I have done, I can't find it :-\

No, senility is setting in, no doubt about that, but I distinctly remember someone describing using RC extensions, cutting them in half, and using them to connect between the SSR4 and EX/RX.
That is the specific info I am looking for. Soldering the connection wires. I need to go back over the docs, because in the BOM there is the 8 pin stand offs......... I could be a brain fart who knows.

Yes I did talk about the rc ext on the Aether video. They can be used on the other stuff also.
Heres how you do it.

Now fold an rc ext in half and cut it so you end up with one male and one female. Then just like in the diagram strip the wires and hook the red wire to pin 8.. Black wire to pin 5 .. and white to pin 1..
Now match the other side up so the same color connects to where the pin you hooked that color goes to on the ex/rx in the picture. You now have a connector in you hookup. The ony reason I did not do this on the other projects is because we use a socket to plug into you can just unplug it there and remove the EX/RX. so another connector was not needed.

Question. So would I tin the RC lead and slide it between the pin/socket connection, or literally solder the wire to the IC pin on the RS485?

No you would use the adapter and remove the rs485 chip and plug it in to the socket where the rs485 was. But you can see you do not nee the plugs ends of the rec ext for this. I see where I got confused in guiding you now.
Let me explian:
To do what you are doing, you cut the ends off of the RC EXT and use the wire only. You solder the wire to the little socket adapter listed and then solder the other ends wires to the EX/RX. You remove your Rs485 chip and plug the adpater in its place.
Where I got confused is on the Aether we do it very different and use the plugs on the Extensions but we solder the wires directly to some pads on the Aether pcb so we need the plugs left on the cable.
Hope I haven't confused you too much.

OK we are circling the wagon closer! So on the SSR4 remove the rs485 ic all together. Solder the adaptor as outlined in the Wiki, plug the adapter in the socket and presto. Is the rs485 just a spare at that point? Keep it in case I go wired (highly doubt it).
That is what I remember from something somewhere, that the chip came out.
I might have another project I could use that for if this is the case.

Harrison - I did see that video, thanks, but that was not the one I remember. RJ pegged it, it had to be the Aether video.

You are 100% correct. You now have a "spare" RS485 that can be reperposed to another board, replace one that is lost, put it with other spare parts, or turn it into a spider body (8 legs) in that high-tech desk art piece.
