Smart String Lengths?
« on: April 27, 2011, »
All,

I am always a late adapter (something I learned from Microsoft) and am now looking into what it will take to get into the Smart String arena.  One thing I have yet to see, what are the approximate lengths of the various number of smart string nodes being offered by Ray Wu?  I believe he has nodes in 25, 50, 75, 100, 132.  Perhaps this is just 10cm X number of nodes translated in imperial (inches and feet), the specs are to be believed.  I think this would help us (me! LOL) figure out things like how many nodes I need for stringing my 15' mega tree, etc.

Thanks,

Kurt

Kurt,
The spacing on the smart string nodes is 3.5".
If my math is correct, a 128 node string would be 444.5" long from first node to last node.
100 nodes - 346.5"
75 nodes - 259"
50 nodes - 171.5"
25 nodes - 84"

Hope that helps.

I order some 50ct string nodes. I unwrap one of them and found out that not all spacing is 3.5 inches. The string was 50 nodes but 22 inches shorter than the calculated length.

I will have to add nodes to cover the area I need for each frame.

Cheers

On my 'Squares' the spacing is abt 3.25"   On the 'rectangles'  it is abt 3"   and on the strings it is also abt 3.25"  However, there is quite a variance on the nodes strings from node to node.   In my  calculations I usually use 3.1" to figure lenghts or number of nodes.

How about this (if folks are open to this).  Post a single post with the following information from each of ya:

Type of Nodes, Number of Nodes, Length in inches

I will compile the full listing and find averages and variance for each node type and number of nodes.

Make sense?
