Smart String Grid

First of all is there such a thing?  You could create your own grid crossing SS, costly but you could likely do some pretty cool stuff.  Anyone tried this?

yes, its been done in various forms this year.  Many used rigid strips, but nodes would also work.

I'm not saying its common, but people have done it ... and program as a RGB matrix.

I was thinking of some sort of plastic mesh with the flex mounted on it, then it can be rolled up at the end of the show for storage vs rigid strips...

Just my thought...

You could roll up the rigid strips if they were mounted on mesh as well.

this is the show pics by Bill, look at the last pic in the first post, this is what some people have done with the flexible strips.

The Rigid strips are only 1m each vs. 4m for the flex strips.  So cost wise is about the same, except they nail you for shipping a little more on the rigid strips.  If you get a quote from Ray on combined shipping, its usually a little lower than otherwise.  Looks like bill cut his flex strips ... so you could do this with rigid also (easier?) ... and could also do with SS nodes also and just mount into something easy like Coro or other materials.

In order to sequence the matrix, you will need software like either LSP 2.0 or LOR S3 with superstar add-on, since superstar does the matrix stuff.

Honestly, when you add up the costs for a matrix, a TV from craigslist starts looking pretty attractive.

ya, depending on the length, but I assumed the height would be a shorter distance and roll from end to end vs top to bottom.  But either way - whatever the user needs - but the mesh style material seems to look the best for storage etc.

I treated most of my smart string elements as matrices in LSP and used the matrix animator for some of the effects.

Disney handles light deployment on the castles using fish nets.  although they don't use nodes, it is a very flexible and consistently spaced.

You could use mesh screening from home depot ect. It comes in many size rolls. works great and its waterproof
