How many shows do you do in a year?
« on: January 05, 2012, »
Being as I am just starting the process to have a display for Christmas, but reading some of the old posts, I have to ask.
How many shows and for what occasions do you put up displays?
Are they all the same size?
Do you have just as much traffic for the other shows?

Thanks

Steve in Edmonton

First year Halloween (small) large Christmas. Many requests for bigger Halloween, altho no one wants to contributes to the costs to growing the display.

This past year was my first so I just did Christmas. I'd like to add a Halloween display to that.
2011 - Year #1
    4000 lights and 16 channels
    5 Songs sequenced
2012 - Year #2
    5000 lights and 123 channels
    8 Songs sequenced

DanHouston, with last year being your first year, when did you start designing and building it. How long would you guess it took to sequence 5 songs?

Not sure if I am being too crazy starting now designing props while I wait for equipment?

I did Halloween and Christmas (2011 was my first year.)

If I had smart strings, I'd be tempted to do other holidays.  My g/f suggested Easter and I can only think of 2 Easter songs (Peter Cottontail and Easter Parade) so I doubt that would happen.  Valentine's would be relatively easy (love songs and red/white lights).  St. Patrick's Day has potential.  Like Chris, if I were to do another holiday I would consider 4th of July.  So much music to choose from and lots of decorating potential.  (Mega flag, fireworks, etc.)  Granted, I doubt you celebrate that in Edmonton, but I think you get the jist.

Your only limitation is you imagination, time and budget!

you would be too crazy if you didn't start now...

we remodeled our house, and spent 6 months out of it. we moved back in around a week or so before thanksgiving, and i still didn't have enough tme to setup stuff outside, let alone, sequence it.

start early.

i'm already setting up the songs for next year, and soon am going to start sequencing. I figure to start with the props i had for this year, and then change the sequence during the year as i make changes to the props (like converting arches from incans to smart string flexible strips)

I only do Christmas now. I used to do Halloween, but no one ever saw it, so I focused on my Christmas display. It takes me all year anyway!  <fp.

CUrrently I just focus on Christmas.  Certainly enough to do.

I am considering a very small 4th of July show, but very few would see it.
