i might be a little selfish, but i do the show for me, b/c i like it. then if someone else likes it too, that's a cool feeling. i wouldn't try to get too wrapped up in how others feel about t, or it might end up altering your show to please everyone.

Basically it's the same for me. The shows are for my kids, my wife, and me. I'm the hardest to please.
I am thrilled when others like them, especially children, but in the end, it's for my family and me.

DanHouston, with last year being your first year, when did you start designing and building it. How long would you guess it took to sequence 5 songs?

Not sure if I am being too crazy starting now designing props while I wait for equipment?

I was in the February coop and began thinking about my design for my yard form then on. I spent a fair amount of time looking at videos and reading and drawing my yard on paper so I had an idea of what I was going to need to get in terms of coords, any additional lights to fill in, and anything I'd need to build. I started building my LE in September, and started sequencing in October. I was finished with sequencing (minus a few tweaks after I watched the show a few times) by December 1st.

Knowing what I know now, and how you can draw things out in Vixen or LSP I wish I had started the sequencing earlier....I was also thankful I only had 16 channels to sequence. :)

So, are you starting to early? Never too early. If you are doing a small show this year (like mine was...just 16 channels) you are giving yourself plenty of room. If you are going to do more than that then you are probably right on schedule.

Halloween is the best way to debug your setup before Christmas.  It is usually much smaller and it tests the power setup, the show computer and the radio transmission.  I usually only run it for 2 or 3 days, but next yeat once I put up my smart string and I will already have a big chunk of my Christmas lights up as well.  What a deal!!!!

Jim,
I agree with you about your debugging early comment. I have done only Christmas for the last two years but, this year I will do 4th of July, Halloween and Christmas.  I am switching over to mostly RGB this year. I want to build some fireworks. Since I have no RGB experience I wanted a test/learning opportunity early in the year so I plan to test the fireworks on the 4th of July.  That will be just after the Academy and I also plan to play with what I learned at the Academy. LED lights can be orange, or whatever, so I will set up most of my lights for halloween and run two songs to work out as many bugs as possible. Then sprint for a solid working show for Christmas.

Nope. This past Christmas was my first animated show. Everything prior has been static.
