i have a spool of 62/36/2 Solder with .015 diameter... do you guys think this would be fine to hand solder a couple surface mount chips?

The solder should work just fine. It's that iron that you use that I would be concerned about.

i have like 6 irons : ) i bought one tonight to replace the one i broke. i literally had one snap in half when i was building the dmx tester.
this one has a really small tip to it.

it had a multi use exacto blade, that i used to cut the holes in the case
