I'm currently building my display device. It's to be used indoors, and will be powered by 4 - 6 freestyles.
I'm about 20% complete on it. Just wanted to give a little teaser on it for now.
I expect to be finished within 2 weeks. Once, you see it, you'll see why it's taking awhile.
I started planning this in March.
Once finished, I'll post pics, and maybe a video of it running.
-
You WILL post a video and like it! >:D
-
3168 - number of electrical solder points for this thing (not even counting soldering together the 6 freestyles.)
-
update: i have the lights part assembled, but not the structure of this. i had to put it on hold for christmas season

<np..
:P ;D

well, i'll have to label this Freestyle project #2...
I re-purposed my freestyle and "light project" if i can get time, I want to finish it to use in the display. it's a really cool use of a Freestyle.
-
ok, i have a couple built, and I'm going to try to get pics up..
i used square acrylic tubing from us plastic
i used bare metal floral wire from Michaels
i used a large amount of LED's that i bought from China
i soldered the positive side of the LED's to the steel wire and the negatives of each LED, i used wire wrapping wire.
i placed the LED's about an inch apart on the steel wire.
then, i fit the whole thing into a piece of square tubing.
running cat5 cable from the conductors (including the steel wire) back to the Freestyle.
the 7 LED tub takes 2 ports on the dreestyle, the 15 LED Tube takes 4 ports.
the nice thing about this version of meteor tubes, is that each LED is directly controllable by the sequencing software.

Here's one

You needa better picture than hat.
-
an update to my project,
now that christmas season is over, i can continue working on this...
-
That is still not a video. Is that string of LED's being directly driven by the Freestyle outputs?
-
all in due time.. i'm actively working on this again
-
Nevermind my last post on the smaller thread.....stumbled on this one.....
How much longer until the video posts?

Hes building a led sign.
-
nope
-
or it mayne a 8x8 matrix cube. The way you are putting it together.

this was just for when i stopped to try to make meteor tubes

well would you hurry up and solder all the connections already lol.
-
resistors and wiring now...
and figuring out a support : )
-
with all of those connections;you should probally use pvc or some other plastic structure.
-
Try to post up what you are doing before bedtime.
I wouldn't want this keeping me up all night. ::)
-
as i mentioned in a another thread, my freestyle project in a 8x8x8 led cube, powered by 4 freestyles
512 blue leds fully dimmable.
coming soon!
-
61 of the 64 stems
have to remake 3, as i started to make meteor lights with them.
-
all stems are built, about 15% done installing the stems...
-
Hopefully soon we will be able to see what you have been creating. Just remember to show it in the light as well as the dark so that we can see what is creating the display we will be looking at.

you'll see what i show you! >:D

LOL!

Have you got it done yet, i could of had that fully assembled already, and where did you get the wire that you are soldering the leds to in the cube. The wire that is ike what is on resisters and such.

I've added gardening, and modding a supercharged Grand Prix to my hobbies. as well as working on my refit of my display to rgbled. I've been pretty maxed out.
metal floral wire is providing the structure of the device. and using awg30 wire wrapping wire from the led's on the stem down thorough the base to the resistors underneath. I don't know the resistor value off hand, but it's based off of a blue LED and 5v supply. i took the value and went a little higher than the normal value from the calculations as i wanted to limit the current even further.
my current stage of the rgb led refiting is involved with 910 rgb leds that i've been soldering to resistors and wire to use wire my wireframes, and mini trees.
on top of all of this, I've been writing a program for another project of mine that has more than 30,000 lines of Visual Basic code so far, and is about 30% completed.
this pretty much why you guys haven't heard from me for days at a time.
-
I bet your sleeping 6 hours a night too.... If you just cut that out of your schedule you would have an extra 6 hours to work on your freestyle project! ???
-
Nice job, it’s a great post. The info is good to know! <rtt..

I've sold off all but two freestyles to fund my light show. plus with some design changes I've been playing with, I'm still going to finish, just have it powered by smart string controllers.
