Just a quick update for those that are waiting oh so patiently for the next Aether 2 coop...it will still be a little ways away. The problem is that RJ is out of pigtails. The smart string controller and Aether use the same pig tails so once the smart string coop get set, there will be pigtails available for the Aethers and I can run the Aether coop. Until the smart string controller coop runs, there will not be enough quantity for good pricing.
So hang in there, it's a comin'.

Thanks for the update. It will just allow me to save a little more and maybe buy another one.

:-\ <fp.
I already have pigtails from unassembled SSCs -- the Aethers are more important to me. :(
Also, I can get cross-over pigtails from Mouser -- they just need different wire-colors to be used, but if you follow a different chart they are just as effective.
I'd be more than happy to just go with PCBs (now) and forgo the coop.

You need heatsink as well. To my surprise, the LED is back in stock Mouser.
-
Looking forward to it ...

Its not that we can not get good prices. There is a minimum since I get them made for us.

RJ,
Are you worried about meeting the minimum amount? With the amount of attention that this site has, I would BET that any amount min would be sold in about 90-120 minutes of a coop opening up.
-
can someone mention what they paid for an aether II last year? i'm looking to see how many i can afford to budget.
-
$82.90 with no lenses, plus shipping. Still getting 15??? (I am not worthy emoticon)
Thought I read somewhere that the price would be lower this year from reduced cost of LED? Maybe someone else will comment on that.
-
i can only get one at a time...

i can only get one at a time...
I pulled this off the last coop. These are ball park figures:
Kit 1 - Lynx Aether II kit – PCB with parts (limit of 100 kits)
Qty 50 - $86.24
Kit 2 - SP model lens - Spot which is 15 deg (currently 75 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28
Kit 3 - NF model lens - Narrow Flood which is 24 deg (currently 200 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28
Kit 4 - FL model lens - Flood light which is 35 deg (currently 95 in stock)
Qty 10 - $5.28
Hope this helps.....

is there an eta on the SSC coop? Are we talking months from now? If so I need to figure out an alternative to the aethers.
thanks,
Grant

It's 5000 and it took six months to sell them last time with a 3700 unit ssc coop taking the first 3700 right away in one order.
Once I know how many for the SS coop I need I will work to get them down on the minimum if possible or see what I have to do. If I moved for the aether coop and underesitmated I would be in serious mess as I would only need a small amount then and could not order that few.

I think the coop manager has some nice surprises for you.

not to change this into a ssc thread, but i believe with new people added, and the people that have been on in awhilerealizing what all we can do. I think the demand would be high again this year. Just from my own expierence, i ordered 2 hubs and 6 ssc's in the coop, then ended up getting 20 more pcbs. and 2 more hubs. i think i'm going to double what i have, especially with the idea of a dumb string controller somewhere on the horizon.

As usual RJ is light years ahead of us... >.d9

RJ I really need a like button for your answers in this and other post. Kudos t to you and the managers.

Kudos to lonewolf for doing the current COOP! Not sure who's idea, but I think the 250 quantity was a great one. I hope our members realize that 250 is a ton of work. <res.
'tis going to be a BRIGHT Christmas!

I greatly appreciate doing this lonewolf!
I'd love to help out in some way... is there something I can do from Texas?
-
I agree Steve, I would like to help also, but from his avatar I assumed he was from somewhere out west!!!
-
He's from Madison, Indiana.
I will be in Madison next week for work....
I doubt he will have anything that needs help with by then, or I would offer.
-
Thanks for the offers. I don't know of anything. The biggest task will be building the heatsinks, but that shouldn't be too bad. A friend, a shear, and a press will all be utilized. I would bring all I could to the academy for those that are going, but that has already been shot down. Other than that, just waiting for the rest to be ordered. I think you'll like the final pricing.

Question:
are the lens for this coop compatible with equipment from last year's coop?
Last year the options were: 15, 24, and 35 degrees
This year the options are: 8, 15, 22, 32, and 45 degrees
The slight 22/24 and 32/35 differences are of no concern -- except they tell me a different vendor might be used. Will the new lens fit on an older unit?
Thanks!
-
i don't think there was a change in the electronics of the aether II between first coop and this... so, it should?

Yes, they are the same and will work with last year's lights. Even mouser had the angle different in two different places so I think I went with the data sheet values. The 3 lenses are exactly the same as last time. Apparently the LED manufacturer added two new lenses to the line-up...or maybe Mouser just started carrying the other 2. Not sure. They are a wider and a narrower one from the ones offered last time. I went ahead and included them in this one to give people more options and to possibly be able to better fine-tune their lights. A little more work, but you guys are worth it. :P

Thanks for the answer, the options, and the effort!

ugh, didn't get an email about the thread start in the coop thread and I haven't been checking in here as much as I used to. Missed the coop again.

The housing that has been the standard for the Aethers is the 500 watt floodlight available from big box stores and for many of us - http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200309783_200309783 (http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200309783_200309783). Received email from Northerntool this morning about "lowest price of the year" on this item. Interestingly, their "new", "best price of the year" is $7.99 which was the "standard" price last year. I suspect we can expect a bump up in price in the near future on these floodlights... (my first guess would be $8.99)...

The design looks different to me. Amongst other things, looks like the handle is attached directly to light fixture instead of stand. Hope the interior dimensions did not change... Last year for mine I removed the floor stand and made taller stand with a new mount and this new design looks like it will be more work.
Anyone had leads on a good deal tranny's?

Good catch on the exterior changes. I missed that when I posted the link. ... Also different handle... Only way to know of any other changes is to get one (arrrrrghhhh... )

I ordered from that link last year and mine were of a different design than what is shown on the site. Mine were just like the one pictured in the wiki for the Aether II, not what was/is shown on their webpage.
Thanks,

I picked up some from the store in OKC and they look exactly like the one in the wiki. Although the picture on the box looks like the one on the website. Go figure.

Thanks Keith... that is the confirmation we needed...

Heard there will be quite a few in town this weekend for the Republican National Convention in Tampa <fp.
Sorry, it was so easy I couldn't resist.....
