Title: Starting Address
Post by: twooly on February 06, 2012,
So from reading you can't use a dongle flashed with pixelnet to change the starting address?

So I can't have the mr16 on the dmx out from the active hub to do the address change using a pixelnet dongle?

Is there anyway without having to flash back to dmx and then back to pixelnet?

You can use a pixelnet dongle, connected to a Active Hub to do programming.

Thank you.....dumb me I was still using the USB Dongle in vixen instead of pixelnet.  Works great!

Thank you.

Ok something just doesn't seem right.  I borrowed one of my dad's mr16s and I was able to change the channel to channel 1 just fine.  Now I've tried both methods in the wiki to change it back to his channel (193) but after many attempts using the 2 different methods in the wiki I can't get it to change back it just stays on channel 1.  I am only pulling the negative from the power and not the whole power source.

Advice on how I can get this changed back?

Reload the firmware it is set to channel 1

But I don't want it on channel 1 any longer, it needs to be set on 193.

Sorry I'll blame my head cold for missed reading your post.

Still I would reflash the pic and start with the second method to set the start address in the wiki.

If your dongle is setup with Pixelnet you can't use DMX software to program it. It has to be software setup to use Pixelnet.
The Lynx Address Utility, StartPattern, DMX Deck won't work since they are all DMX programs.

Which Dongle are you using? USB Lynx Dongle or EtherDongle

If you are using USB I could mod StartPattern to use DMX or Pixelnet (Lynx USB dongle Only)
If EtherDongle than use your Sequence software and set Channel one to 193

Ok yeah I am using a pixelnet usb dongle through the smart string (dmx out) hub trying to use the lynx address utility.

Now you say mode StartPattern, how?

Ok got it figured out, not the best way but I got it changed.  Hopefully some type of firmware change or something can make it easier.

I ended up flashing my dongle to DMX and got it changed.

Yeah the address utility won't work if the dongle is in pixelnet mode (the dongle won't know what to do with the dmx data being sent to it). The dongle would have to be in dmx mode.

I need to work work RJ to get the software updated to allow a switch between dmx and pixelnet.

Sorry for the confusion

No worries made sense once you said that so just doing a reflash of the dongle was ok.  Not the best (hate taking the chips up) but it did the trick.

Thank you

you can program them by sending data to dmx (from a pixelnet dongle to a active hub via it's dmx out.

instead of the utility, you use your sequence software.

just be careful changing a jumper on any device that has power applied!
