How many nodes (lights) can you have per channel?
-
The max is 128
John
-
It depends on the current draw of the strings. It is 128 for the smart strings.
See the SS Lights Info Chart and Ordering Links on this page http://www.diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Equipment#Smart_Strings
-
just standard old fashioned strings
-
For the SSC (Smart String Controller) RJ limited the node count to 128 because of the power concerns.
This is in a LE discussion group, so I assume the question refer to the LE and not SSC. The LE provides 110V power to the 16 channels, so the count is not a factor, it is the amps. The amps is dependent on the strings you are using and the numbers of those strings. So, there is no fixed number.

How many amps can 1 channel carry?
-
Four amps per channel, fourty per express, as long as you don't go with the bridge option, ie, you have two power cords.

from the wiki...
Using both power inputs (ie: two cords on two separate circuits (ie: breakers))
40 amps Total for the Express with approved heat sink attached
4 amps per channel maximum with approved heat sink attached
Using one power input (see below - Appendix A single power input mod)
20 amps Total for the Express with approved heat sink attached
4 amps per channel maximum with approved heat sink attached

<md.. I forgot to look at the wiki first... thank you for the help

i found this site http://www.christmaslightsetc.com/c7-christmas-light-strings-and-spools--454.htm (http://www.christmaslightsetc.com/c7-christmas-light-strings-and-spools--454.htm) for bulk amounts of wire but all the wire is 7 to 10amp so i think its a no go.

Use LEDs. Last year I ran 24,000 LEDs off of a single 15-amp circuit.
-
Can u link me to a site u get ur lights from?
-
I used kaxled (from China) last year. Very satisfied. sales1@kaxled.com
This year I am using Ray Wu (also from China) to get RGB pixels. Ray Wu is the guy nearly everyone in DLA uses. I was also very satisfied. http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/701799
Locally, people scrounge after holidays to get discounted lights -- WalMart, Target, Hobby Lobby, Garden Ridge, ...
There are also several online light sources in the US that make bulk orders to China.
-
alright ty ill prolly check out kaxled
-
let the group know about kaxled. I am interested also
-
itd be funny to do a Coop for mass buying lights the shipping would suck though.

http://kaxled.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008829663908/pdtl/LED-string/1012051620/LED-String-Lights.htm
On the right side it says Minimum Order: * 100 to 199 Set
Meaning i have to buy a minimum of 100 strings?
-
I ordered 144 LED strings of 100 lights, so I met the minimum.
Since I was just getting started, doing a large purchase on my own made sense.

Let's keep this thread the topic of Lynx Expresses please.

I'm merely asking which route to go for my lights so i dont screw anything up on my express when i get the hardware. The more "ducks" i have i a row now the smoother my display setup will be next xmas. Sorry if it appears we are off topic...
