Cable/Zip tie guns?
« on: August 13, 2012, »
Has anyone used a cable/zip tie gun? Does it just do the tightening and cut off the end and you still have to loop it around and get it started by hand?

I have a bunch of work to do with zip ties coming up and if these things are a time saver I may get one, but looking for some feedback.

All of the ones my employees use are to cinch and cut the already started tie.  I have never seen one that does the whole operation.

A definite must have IMHO. Was a time saver for me last year. You start the zip tie by hand, then tighten and clip off excess. just makes a much neater display during daylight hours. Its like $6.95 at harbor freight.

Wondered the same thing and when I found out it doesn't start I passed.  Being the son of a firefighter/electrician I became worried that one could over tighten and pierce insulation and cause a fire or get shocked.  On the other hand if I was faced with lighting 16 mini trees I would just be careful and use one since you will be using alot of ties.

i have used these, they are like having a torque wrench, they always apply the same tension and then cut the ties.

I use a zip tie gun on all major projects.  Saves my hands and fingers along with doing the final tightening and cutting with one instrument.  On my mini trees I put all the ties on by hand and then go back with the zip gun and clean everything up.

I bought a cheap one at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, and my buddy brought over his that he got at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. It is definitely worth the extra to buy a nice one. The cheap one was not nearly as smooth and consistent.

If you can break them by hand, then you are really using some cheep ties, LOL.
