Shoot, I paid before I read the part about mandatory insurance.  <yk..   I made 2 paypal payments.  One for the shipping and one for the insurance.  I hope that is OK.

Gotta back the last post as well (and also not trying to start something).   I had no problems with the instructions or the payment.   I was also not surprised by the insurance requirement as it was clearly stated in the first post on this thread prior to my placing any order requests.

Do some quick math at the total value of this COOP... even some of the individual orders.  Statistically, I suspect at least one of these deliveries will be lost or damaged in shipment.  If I were running this thing... and after all that sorting and mailing and responding to update queries... I sure wouldn't want to have to deal with an annoyed member who got a squashed box with parts he'd have to replace at twice the COOP cost in order to get his stuff to work either.

Everyone's happy to sign off on rules about 'at your own risk' and look for the absolute cheapest option until they take a loss... then it's always agnst and recriminations.  In this case I think the mandatory insurance was a smart move... not to paternalistically protect those who won't protect themselves, but to protect the site and the COOP manager from having to buy even more Advil.

I'm in on the Buehler Family Night Out fund as well.   Thanks guys!  Amazing job.... we don't deserve you.

Hello All

I have been asked questions about the insurance a few times now, so instead of sending a PM with the same answer over and over again her I go:

Many have asked why the insurance is required on this Co-Op.  Due to the size and value of this Co-Op it is for peace of mind for the Co-Op members.  I have always made insurance a requirement in the Co-Ops that I run, especially when they start to get into high counts.  We have all seen the horror pictures of users getting boxes in that have been ripped apart in such ways that the only thing the user ends up receiving is just an empty box.  This way, should this happen a claim can then be filled with the post office.  Yes I know that insurance can be seen as something of a waste of money, but it is no different than car, home, or auto insurance.  It is something that you pay and may never need to claim but if you need it, you find yourself happy that you have it.

Also a note on the payment PM:

Yes this payment PM was a little different then my normal ones, in the past I would send a single amount that included all fees that needed to be paid.  Due to the size of this Co-Op I just do not have the time to research and then custom figure amounts for 203 members.  Sending the more generic PM saved a huge amount of time.  I am running under a clock and trying the get the packages out the door to avoid any shipping delays.

Packing still continues as we are working on boxing up items each evening after work, last night 63 boxes were packed up.  We are making some headway and are starting to see the light at then end of the tunnel.

Bill

If you don't think the post office can and will screw up, take a look back at the one previous wireless coop.

The few dollars of insurance is well worth it and less than the cost of shipping.

I'm also in on a "co-op" for a Buehler appreciation package.

i wasn't whining or complaining about insurance. I was happy that someone mentioned it.

I totally skipped where it said to add the insurance cost.
This is my first Bill coop, so i didn't know that was standard for him.
after seeing that thread from that wireless coop in the past, it sure wa an eye opener.

i may start adding insurance on all of it.
