Video Tips for RGB?
« on: November 05, 2012, »
This is my second "season" using all this neat technology.  Last year was easier because I was running all incandescent.  However this year, I need to figure out a way to video my display so that it still looks good.  As you can see from the video below, I recorded at dusk.  It's really hard to see green and yellow, and impossible to tell that the windows have chases at all.

Any tips, thoughts, ideas?

First I would get a tripod
Second set focus to manual (if possible) and make sure its sharp as possible.
Third try to get less sky since that is too bright (zoom in or show more of the street) which might help with colors, lighting, etc

As strange as this might sound. Try some back lights (weird huh?) Last year I was SO upset when the electric company put in new Super Bright Street Lights. Turns out that it didn't effect my show but did provide some back lighting so my camera was able to record better.

btw: I love the vocal overlay about safety  ;D

I forgot something (surprise I know)

If at all possible adjust your white balance. I doubt most camera will allow a manual adjustment but if it does Use It !!

I use my iPod touch - hence the stability issues.  (Maybe Santa will bring me a new camera!)  I can't adjust the exposure, white balance, etc. that are "normal" adjustments on other cameras.

The backlighting actually makes sense.  Did you find making the RGB values smaller helped?  Or did you make all your adjustments with the camera?

I just video the show as is

for the touch, how about a step ladder with a bean bag on top to hold it.

then again the small image sensor isn't going to let a lot of light in.
