Title: 4 port hub for programming
Post by: zwiller on April 17, 2013,
I can use a 4 port passive hub to program SSCs right?  I would like a dedicated bench SSC programmer/tester.  Also, anything inherently wrong with scavenging an old laptop PS to power it?  I have one that is 2A @ 12V and another is 4A @ 12.6V.  I would prefer to be able to power a full string for testing, is the extra .6V an issue?  Another other ideas appreciated.  Thanks.

Most fully loaded SSC will need 4amps or a little bit more.  To be save I would get a 6amp power supply.  But don’t forget that this is a 4 port hub and because of that you might want to cover yourself for all 4 ports, so you may want a 20amp power supply.

Put a meter on that laptop power supply before hooking it up.

There is vey little standardization in laptop power bricks...
