spacing between nodes?
« on: March 29, 2012, »
had anyone gotten away with 4ft spacing between nodes? or even 5-6ft?

i want to run one string as...

[SSC][node 1] --- 4ft gap --- [node 2] --- 4 to 6ft gap --- [node 3] ---4ft gap --- [node 4]  end.
To rule the entire tri-state area!  What's that? Perry the Platypus!!!

I haven't tried that big of a gap yet.  How many nodes do you want to do?  I guess voltage drop is another concern?

What the *heck* are you up to?  LOL.  I'm not the engineer in the family, but I'm guessing you should be OK with that spacing.

that's the string...   4 nodes  with really big gaps in between.

You are pushing it close to the limit but that's the great thing about DIY, just go for it.  You could also use some of those 3 channel chips that you bought as signal regenerators.  Granted, you will lose three channels for each one of those chips but 5 feet between the active nodes would be no problem at all.

spacing between nodes?

I've done 10 ft gaps, but your mileage may vary. I only have 7 modules on that string...

In addition to signal loss, there is voltage loss in the wire as the length gets longer. When it starts getting too long things may either drop out, or start giving unusual colors as the three colors respond differently to the reduced voltage...

Voltage loss should be minimal with only 4 nodes on the line.  They don't draw enough current to cause a significant drop in only 20 feet.
