Heres a little video of the wireless put to the kind of use I had in mind for it.
Hope you like!

That's pretty slick! But now I gotta know something about this thing:
Which boards were used with the SSR4 setup? Does it use the DMX optional board along with the Wireless RX or is the DMX board not needed? I haven't ever considered the SSR boards before, but after seeing this, I can see where it might be of benefit to do so.
I'm guessing all 3 boards are required, but I think I've been wrong before (maybe not, though) ;)

That is cool. This is one of the uses I had envisioned when I first saw the demo of wireless at the GA Mini last April. Exactly what I would like to grow into. Too much dinero to do it all this year. Leaves me with a couple of questions regarding the SSR4 with wireless. I noticed that the triac/voltage regulator appeared to be bent down. i assume that is for space reasons. Did you install it a little high or just normal before bending it over? Or did you bend the pins before soldering?
I know that we can use the wireless board with other products than the LE, but I do not recall seeing instructions on how to do the install to the other devices. As one who is not an electronics wizard, but one who can follow instructions, it would be nice to find a detailed WIKI entry on adding the wireless to older dimmers. If it is already there, I missed it, but a link would be great.
Oops, went searching and found the wiring info at http://diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mod_Wireless (http://diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mod_Wireless). I ordered a few extra wireless to try with my SSR4s and needed that detail. Good thing I had not started assembling them yet. I posted the link so others who need it might find it quicker.

I also added a link on the Pinout Page.
Rick if this is wrong please remove.

Steve,
You do need the DMX parts for the SSR4 to a make it work with the wireless module. You do remove the RS485 chip on the SSR4, but all other DMX parts are needed.

Hi Steve
Short answer 2 boards. the SSR4-DMX and the EX/RX module
Slightly longer answer:
SSR4 with the DMX optional parts are soldered unto the ssr4 board (this turns the SSR4 into a 4 channel controller). The LE EX/RX receiver module is double sided taped to the lid of the ssr4 case. To connect them together you need one more part and 3 wires like RJ shows in the link below.

hope that helps

Very nice,,, I am liking those SSR4's now,,, I can see a lot of use for those.
Quick question, on your 4 channel trees, did you make those so that the legs fold in for storage. If so, I would love to see your design. Looks great RJ, I will be making a trip to South Florida the second week in December, looking forward to seeing your light setup.

The trees do not fold.
The Regulator on the EX/RX must but put in a little high and bent to give you clearance from the SSR4 main board when the lid is closed.

Nice trees RJ. Still haven't figured out how you get some much done. Between electronics, programming, light displays, website help, Coop management, regular job and Family. Must work so much more efficiently than I do.
Or could it be all the elf's you got hiding out back.
Thanks :o

Cool Trees! I am planning to "upgrade" my mini trees to 4-ch with SSR4DMX. I am currently going wired on them being they are about 6ft apart. But the tree design does give me an idea for a small "mini mega tree" to use with the 2 LE I ordered :) .......
We on that no sleep thing back to building SSR4's!

RJ,
Just found this thread and looked at the video. I love those 4 channel Mini trees. My question now isnt so much electronical (is that even a word) but mechanical. When building the wire frames did you have a jig to get the bends just right on every branch? Do you have a drawing or write up on guage of rod and length and etc? I have a few tomato cages I was going to convert over but I like your design here a lot better.

I just got one where I liked it and then left it hanging in the vise while I bent the rest so I could line it up the same. No Jigs. I have forgot what size steel rod I used but can measure some left over steel pieces that are left in the barn later this weekend between the down pours.

Awesome!!! thank you, Im going to break out the wire feed this long weekend and work on some mini trees..
