Title: Dual Ethernet Port system with ed
Post by: MrChristmas2000 on May 09, 2012,
I am trying to figure out how I can run a pc with 2 network interfaces (2 networks) and direct the Multicast address specifically to one of the interfaces.

I think it can be done but I haven't found any how to articles.

I believe multicast will be sent over all NICs.

i'll try it with my system, it has a couple disabled NICs that I can use.

Are you usng Xlights? I don't think you can specify what network card xLight uses.  With XLights, I disabled one of the NICs and then started Xlights.  After Xlights was running I re-enenabled the NIC.   I know with LightShow Pro its an option on the plug-in.

If it doesn't work

Why not just put a 4 port ethernet switch on your computer and not use the second nic

The mistake I was making is that I was not assigning a dummy address to the extra ethernet port. Did that and it worked just fine.

Sometimes the ole grey matter has to be prodded.  ;D
