Advanced questions on circuits
« on: November 02, 2011, »
I know it is against forum rules to get too technical, but I am interested in learning more about electronics, to begin tinkering around, etc. Can anyone recommend a good forum/ wiki for learning electronics?

I don't think it's against the rules, I think the rule's intention is to be considerate of non-technical folks and do the best possible non-technical approach in helping.  I'm sure I broke that rule once or twice.

There is no doubt what we do has a more than normal technical aspect.  It's kind of like what RJ did when he designed these wonderful electronic gizmo's.  It's very technical in his world, but he and all those that helped, designed it to be assembled in a relatively simple straight forward approach.  Basically, here are the parts, these are the holes they go in, learn to solder, don't electrocute yourself, plug the lights in, turn on the controller, run the software...Blinky Flashy...

Now if one would actually sit and talk to RJ about these devises, he would (if I understand RJ) probably talk the technical head right off our shoulders and we'd all be looking  :o

That is because RJ is trying to keep this site from getting to technical and scaring off the people that just want to decorate and create light shows without feeling stupid.

I understand the ideal that RJ has and appreciate it. I just want to get into more trouble ;)

Thanks for the link. I'll likely take you up on that pm offer, but probably after the holidays.

My diy bug isn't limited to lights... I also bake (always have & now with daughter allergic to wheat & eggs, even more), play with sugarwork, cook, smoke/grill, woodwork (mostly toy & full size furniture), sew ( related to furniture, costumes for my daughter, and some alterations).

And... It's the time of the year (cooling down) for me to work on those additional electrical circuits.
And... I need to finish gutting and renovating the guest bathroom.

All while trying to keep my  daughter healthy as possible, which is a challenge on its own.

Sorry if I rambled, sometimes it all gets a bit overwhelming.

I have had one insane idea I've been wondering about ( well, more than one, but trying to focus )

If i was to make a grid of 1280 x 720 led units, each consisting of an red, green and blue led, how difficult would it be to display video from an hdmi cable?

Think wall of shower, or ceiling
