Title: Alternative waterproofing?
Post by: CaptKirk on December 09, 2010,

The Blue Ridge cases are by far the best technical solution for a water-proof case, but has anyone explored "alternatives" that might be a bit more acessible and or affordable?

I was wondering if something like Ziploc containers (www.ziploc.com/containers) or Rubbermaid might be able to be used? They have various sizes, the lid pops off and on for access, easy to cut access holes, and inexpensive (get them at Walmart).  A little silicon on the standoff screws from the outside would seal it there.

Any experience here with this??  Am I repeating a previous thread?

Thx,

Interesting.

Your science officer is surprise by your low tech ideas. He figure you would ask for a force field shielding with proton torpedoes at the ready just in case the Romulans would attack. Also there doesn't appear to be any Walmart on Vulcan.

You know, I needed 1 box and didn't want to order a big batch, so I built a 12w x 12h x 6d box out of cheap 7/16 OSB, painted it, sealed it and mounted it on rebar.    I  put a clear trash bag over it while the paint was drying on the lid, but I ended up leaving the trash bag over it and not putting the lid on because I like to be able to see what the controller is doing when I walk by.
