Should I turn my PC off at night?
« on: December 08, 2010, »
I notice that if I turn my PC off at night, in the morning a couple of channels are sometimes on.  Is this normal or do I have a termination or cable issue?
Thanks,
Jim

I normally turn everything off at night.  But it is really about what you like to do.
The Lynx Dongle when powered sends out an "All Channels Off" command when the PC is not sending data to it. "Kiwi Protocol"

When the PC is off there is no power to the Lynx Dongle so should I get a powered USB hub to keep it on and to continue to send the "All Channels Off"?  I would like to turn the PC off but don't like the channels coming on in the middle of the night.

In my program, the last sequence is called "Turn off Lights" which does exactly that.

If you are not killing the power to your controllers and the dongle is powered off, random data will be created on the line over time and trick your controllers to turn stuff on.

I kill power in the yard but some leave it on and leave the dongle going.

Thank You. That's what I needed to know.  I was not sure if it was random data or I did something wrong.  At this point I think I will keep the dongle going I have too many controllers in too many locations and it's easier to just leave it on.
BTW. The show is going good. All 16 Express controllers are working flawlessly A minor bug with an SSR4 that I am about to get into but I have a spare for that.
Thank you everyone for all the help.  I hope that everyone else is successful.

I have multiple computers in my house and I only turn them off when I am working on them.  All of them are also on APC battery backup units.  This includes the show computer.
