cutting LED Strings?
« on: September 15, 2013, »
I need to cut my new Creative Design 24 foot M5 Led sting in at least half if not fourths.  I seem to be 3 to ten feet short on all my displays.  I am hoping this can be done as I just cant see doubling up 20 feet of extra lights.  I have tried youtube and google to find some answers but just cant find it.  Thanks for the help.

This is not easily done. There are only certain places a strand can be cut depending on where the rectifiers(blobs) are on your strands. Otherwise you have to calculate adding resistors to the strand to dissipate the extra voltage or you will burn up the remaining leds in the strand(and they can get hot). It would be easier to cover the remaining lights in a black yard garbage bag.

I kinda new the answer would not be in my favor.  It just kills me to know I spent 15.00 on a 24 foot light strand andI can only use three feet.  times that by 10 displays equals a lot of wasted money

The above comment from Keotha43 also goes for incandescent mini lights.

You can half the strings and that is it.
