Title: Linux
Post by: rimist on November 22, 2011,
Is anyone running their show from Linux? If so, what flavor? Anything special i should know about setting up a Lynx USB DMX dongle with Linux?

Yes, i have a Windows laptop to create or modify the sequences, however, i have to install a box for the show, and i don't have days to tweak it into stability.

I do all of my testing with Linux Mint, which is an enhanced version of Ubuntu. However, I have received messages from others running xLights on a variety of different flavors of Linux.

Lynx dongles are based on chips from FTDI, and FTDI drivers are built in to most versions of Linux, so you shouldn't run into any problems connecting with the dongle.

I don't provide a pre-built version of xLights for Linux, so you will need to build it yourself. Instructions are in the ToolConfig.txt file in the svn repository on SourceForge.

Hi Matt

Using Debian Squeeze:
I was able to compile Menu, Tester, TesterRGB but not Scheduler

Its coming up with 32 errors.

Any ideas?

I attached the debug window if that helps

As of SVN version 65, I have it compiling and running under Linux Mint - warnings, but no errors. This will be release 2011d.

By following the instructions in ToolConfig.txt.
Using files at http://apt.wxwidgets.org/dists/natty-wx/main/binary-amd64/
Updating to SVN 65
Xlights compiles and runs on Ubuntu 11.10

Good afternoon all,

I am looking to use xLights in Linux for my Halloween show.  I am not seeing where to obtain the program and install it in Linux.  I have been told to use something called SVN but have no clue how to do this and am looking for some guidance.  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and have searched the net for how to use the SVN, but nothing jumps out and says do this, rather most talk about installing it as a server.  Any and all assistance would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Don,

THANK YOU so much for the help and the response.  Got it to make all of the files except xConverter does not show up in the bin directory and the Converter button on the xMenu shows an error 2 in the terminal window.  How do I build the xConverter bin file?

Again, thanks for all

Is there any way to compile xLights for Linux that runs on the ARM architecture?

Thanks,

mkozik1,
I have only compiled it with Code:Blocks.
Read further up, there is some updating of wxwidgets required to get it to compile.
