fm transmiter for long distance
« on: December 31, 2010, »
My house sits about 80 yards off the street, and my house sits at the end of the street so it can be seen the whole time you are driving my street which is a 1/4 mile long.  What fm transmiter do you guys suggest for reception up to 1/4 mile?

I got this 500mw and it is good for about 1.5 blocks.  It works like a champ.  That is with only a 10 inch whip antenna on it transmitting from inside the house.  I also am out in the boonies.  I am on a 2.5 acre lot.  Try this one out.  I bet with an outside antenna you could transmit farther then you wanted to.  It is 100mw or 500mw switchable.  This is my second year using the transmitter.  It runs 24/7 from thanksgiving to new years.  It sounds great and does not even get warm running 24 hours a day.

Yes I know!  No need to post about fcc rules.  If some wants to be a butt munch and make trouble just because he has nothing better to do then bother people with light shows I will then figure something else out.  Until then I will run with 500mw.

Myself and some Friends of mine use one like this.

We can easily transmit over a mile with great fidelity. It's kinda pricey but, what about this hobby is cheap???!!! ;)

thank you for the quick responses.  i live in the country, in a country sub where everybody is on at least 5 acres so there is lots of open space out here.  I'll check both those out.  Thanks

I use a stock Ramsey 25B and it can be heard for couple of blocks.  I'm not a radio guy, but I suspect that how good your antenna is may make a big difference.

An  EDM LCD series or Ramsey FM100B .  Add an FM DX Antenna mounted about 25' feet off the ground with a good 50ohm cable.

The radio stations in your town will be jealous of your sound.

I agree with Jeff. I use an EDM-LCD-CS-EP. With a proper antenna it sounds great.

I picked up one of these for our church because I couldn't run an antenna very easy and needed the power to get through a brick wall room.  It had the power to push through the wall and worked for that setup.   The price is also right.

It sounds great even without the proper antenna!

Your right. When I first ran it, I just taped the included antenna wire to the window and had no problems and it did sound great.

You would be amazed again at how good they sound when you have a good antenna and antenna cable to boot.  We used ours since the beginning of October to play Christmas music and it was awesome.  I had Kevin (Elf) record a couple station identification messages to match his time and temp messages for ZaraRadio and our visitors thought it was a regular radio station.

+1 for the EDM transmitters.  I got a EDM-LCD-RDS-EP last Dec. after my Vastelec started having issues.  I was worried about the price, but the range is great, and most of all it sounds fantastic.
