custom 3D models... how?
« on: August 08, 2013, »
The tree model is a matrix that is applied to a cone shape.  Does nutcracker actually do anything in 3D space, or... is everything done on a 2D surface?

I'm interested in two shapes -- a sphere, and a starburst.  A "starburst" was created by combustionmark, it has many rays going off in in three dimensions.  A starburst could be treated as concentric spheres.  It also might be treated as bunch of intersecting lines, or a bunch of arches.

The existing custom model editor works in 2 dimensions.  How would it handle 3 dimensions?  Does it even matter if nutcracker is only working in 2D?

Just 2D for now. Everything is done in two dimensional space. I don't know anyone has thought about 3 D yet

Nutcracker 2 had x,y,z, models, nutcracker 2 has just x,y models. it turns out the extra work i did was unneeded. If someone builds a cube (like 8x8x8 or 16x16x16) we will build modes and new effects to take advantage of them, it is not a small amount of work so i dont want to stop the priorities we have (single strand effects, pasma balls, smoke, fluids, ) and others.
