It is not in the USB section. You will find what com port it is using under the Ports (COM/LPT)

FTDI driver info is in the wiki under software - not vixen, but ftdi

I down loaded all the FTDI files.
Extracted all files. Still the Com/LPT doesn't show up.
As I understand it should pop up.

You have to tell vixen which com port was assigned when you connected the USB dongle to the computer by using the output plugins section of your vixen profile.

Follow these steps:

1. Download the FTDI drivers installation guide for your operating system: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/InstallGuides.htm
2. Follow the FTDI installation guide.
3. After the drivers are installed go to your Device Manager --->  Ports (COM and LPT) ----> USB Serial Port (COMx) and right click on it for properties.
4. Under "Port Settings" set it to Bits Per Second = 115200, Data Bits = 8, Parity = NONE, Stop Bits = 0,  Flow Control = NONE. the click OK.

The enter the COM port number in vixen.

I think my ports (com and lpt) are missing.
Not sure what to do about that.

I'm confused.  Your posted picture shows you are using an etherdongle.  There are no ports needed for an etherdongle only a USB dongle.  If you are not plugging anything into a USB port for sure you will not see any ports in device manager.

<fp.  Did not see he was using the Etherdongle....  The FTDI drivers are not needed for the Etherdongle.  If you are going from your computer (I will assume it is a laptop) to your etherdongle with a CAT5 cable you MAY need a crossover cable.  Others have had success by setting an IP address in there computer (IE: 192.168.0.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0) your mileage may vary. On the Vixen front it looks like you have everything correct.

Now I'm confused. You have to set up a com port to use vixen right?
Yes I'm using a cat cable. Are you saying I don't need a com port?

Ok. Here I am. The network adapter says it's working.
Now when I plug in the string it's blinks.
What do I have to set in Vixen to make the program work?
OK I think I remember something about if the etherdongle is programmed for conductor you can't use vixen test program. Now I have a the conductor program with the test program. Can I use that to test the lights? I'm testing a new kind of WS281 strings. Only 20 LED modules one WS2811 chip pre module.

Did you install install the desired Vixen v2.1 output plugin from the EtherDongle Wiki, or are you trying to use one of the stock USB output plugins that ask you for a com port ?

Get the output plugins here:

I'm using the ethernet connection.
As I remember you can program the etherdongle and test it.
I think I could use the conductor to test the strings to.
Some of the strings are only 20 chips others are 80 chips.
But I don't know if that matters.
And yes the output plugin in.
The conductor will not connect.

Download and install Xlights http://nutcracker123.com/nutcracker/releases/xLights_Nutcracker_3_2_9.exe then do the following:

1. Run Xlights
2. Under "File" set your show directory. This will be the directory all your Xlight xml files will be kept in.
3. Click the "Setup" tab and select "Add E1.31"
4. When the E1.31 box opens select Method = Multicast, Starting Universe = 1, Number of universes = 16, Last channel = 512, the click OK
5. Click "Save Setup"
6. Click the "Test" tab then select "Select All" the click the "RGB cycle" tab. Make sure the Output to lights box is checked near the "Lights Off" button
7. Now select the "A-B-C" radio button and your lights should begin cycling through colors.

If you get this far then you should be able to play your Vixen sequences with Xlights

Do I have to reprogram the etherdongle to run xlights. It's programed to conductor.

Yes, you have to reload the EtherDongle firmware if you want to run your show thru XLights.

<fp.  OK another curve ball here....  If you have your Etherdongle loaded with the conductor firmware and are running the conductor you will NOT be able to use vixen to test your lights. You will have to create a sequence in Vixen then convert it to conductor format then put it on your SD card then have the show set to play. If you want to test you will need to re-flash your Etherdongle back to Pixelnet then you can do testing with Xlights or Vixen. A second etherdongle might be a big help for you...

The conductor is programmed with the testing sequence.
