Title: C9 used as extention cord
Post by: abrianbaker on September 27, 2011,
I know what you all are thinking    <md..

However here is my question:

I have been given about 3000 feet of c9 lights from a commercial display.  It is just the sockets no lights.  I was wanting to take all of the sockets off and use it for extention cords.  My question is that when I pull off the sockets it leaves two very small holes in the jacket where the contacts were.  Is there a way to seal these up again?  Thought about electrical tape, silicon, or something else.

And yes it sounds like ALOT of work but when your wife says you cannot have an more money for light stuff this year and you still need 2000 feet of cord you do what you can...

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Brian

Brian,
I have used C9 cords for extension cords. I cover the little holes with liquid electrical tape or hot glue.

Or see if someone would be willing to do a swap with you. :)

You could also put a drop of fingernail polish over the holes.  Get clear or cloored at only $1 a bottle at the dollar store.  Also works good as an insulator on other stuff.

Have to agree with lineman.  Liquid electrical tape.

Thanks for the awesome tips!  Going to try the fingernail polish and will let you know how it goes!

I have not tried this , but you might want to test the insulation value after you put the polish on and make sure there is no electrical leakage not sure fingernail polish won,t track power and if someone happens to step on the wire they may be in for a SHOCK, Let us know what you find out I would be interested

Well after experimenting with fingernail polish.........  It seems to work pretty well.... However after plugging 50 holes per string it became too cumbersome because the polish kept drying out on me.  Think I'll go the liquid electrical tape route...  probable safer in the long run anyway   <;d  <md..

Thanks again,

Brian
