Newbie Problems?
« on: December 10, 2012, »
Ok I have a couple...well actually several questions.

1. After I generate an effect I cannot get it into LSP. I have put it in my userpatterns in the LSP directory and it will show up in LSP but will not paste to grid. There are several XML choices and I have tried 2 of them with no success. Which one should I be using? And can some please give me exact step by step on how to do this?

2. After I generate an effect how can I find it again in Nutcracker?

3. I tried a local install and was unsuccessful in getting it to work. It seems like you have to be a programmer to use it. Very complicated for this old feeble mind anyway. What install is everyone using?

4. How do you see and use other's generated patterns. I cannot even see them, but I am sure I just don't know how?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(1) I double click the pattern and wait until it says copied. This can take 10-20 seconds depending how big the effect was. I then select a cell in LSP and type ctl-v

(2) The effects tab in nutcracker should show all the effects you have created so far

(3) Installing xampp (or wamp) should take about 5 minutes. take all defaults. I am sorry that it is more complicated than other programs. Next year i am thinking of changing the technology stack. One good thing about php as the core and a web page app. it runs on ipads, phones, linux and windows. Downside, to run it locally you need to install the 350 mbytes of apache and mySQL.

(4) To see others effects go to the Gallery tab aftrer you login

thanks

1. I will try that. I have been dragging and dropping.
2. I don't think that is there for me. It just wants me to build a new effect
3. I will work on getting that done, but I did ask for help on the install and really got no help. (not complaining, just a fact)
4. Gallery is working on this machine. Not  on my programing one. That's funny...

Thanks Sean and thanks for sharing this. I really want to get going on my leaping arches as well.

I too have had this problem with most effects I've generated.  they show in the patterns on the left, and will "draw" in the grid, but when you release the mouse after the drag, the grid is empty.  I posted this issue on December 2nd, and got no response.

"2. After I generate an effect how can I find it again in Nutcracker? "

From the effects tab (your screen Shot), click the "Submit Form to customize Effect" button.  It should show you all effects you've created for the selected target.

For your local install, folow the instructions in the Sticky post at the top of this forum entitled "Nutcracker Local Install"  You'll be running in a few minutes!

these really need an index to know the content in each one. most are one hour long, some are 2-3 hours.

Prob next year, i will try and make a wiki, or an instruction manual. i know the documentation is light, next year we should fix this.

I have watched the basic ones. The effects tab is the one that I am selecting. It comes up with the screen that I posted.

From the effects tab (your screen Shot), click the "Submit Form to customize Effect" button.  It should show you all effects you've created for the selected target.

That did it. Now how do I delete the ones that I don't want so they are not taking up space on the web site?

Thanks,
Roger

The issue is that the model (target) was saved with a blank name.  Do the process to remove it via the Admin->Clean up old effects option (as Sean mentioned in the prior forum entry.)  This should get rid of the blank model.  [Later edit.  Nevermind.  I see you did that and it worked!  Great to hear!]

The only thing i typed was

i dont know where the angry emoticon cane from. Understand that it grieves me when my software is hard to use. I always blame myself , never the user.

I am just trying to copy an already made spiral, but on this machine I cannot see the trees. I have attached a sreen view. I have a setting off somewhere in explorer but I don't know where? Or something not loaded that I need to view.
