My first ever computer controlled light show
« on: November 29, 2010, »
My first light show.

Years ago I got an email with the song Wizards Of Winter jamming to Christmas lights.  I thought that would be the coolest thing to do something like that.  I did not know how they did it other then it was computer controlled switches of some sort.  I did the last 2 years with a couple of Gemmy 6 channel boxes.  It was better then static lights but just barely.  I wanted MORE!  Last year in November 2009 I started looking for kits or something.  I looked at 8 channel parallel port relay boards.  I kept reading about coops but could not find any. (I know why now).  I thought shoot,   I have over a month to set up a show?  Anyway I was in the first 2010 coop R.J. had (the really big one) and a couple more after that.  I built 11 Expresses, 4 SSR4’s and 2 dongles.  I have checked the forum morning, noon and night for over a year now.  I have been learning more each day.  I have about 16 sequences and spent hundreds of hours making them. I made my spiral tree in the spring and put it away in safe keeping for the big show (and it turned out kick a$$).  I spent countless hours planning and reworking stuff for the show.  My co-workers are probably sick and tired of hearing about my light show but none of them has said anything.  I have never been so into something like the light show.  I have had more FUN working on the show then I can remember for a LONG time.   My wife has been very supportive of the show.  She did not do anything with it but she sure likes it!  I just want to thank you R.J. for the Lynx Express.  It is a work of art.  I also want to thank all here who helped me in my quest for blinky lights and KC for Vixen.   This place rocks!  Now about the smart strings for next year……..

Love the Trees, especially the Spiral Tree

Your video camera did an awesome job recording the show. What camera do you have?

Kudos to you Ron!  You put a lot of heart into your display and it shows!

As an aside, CNN/Int'l just did a bit on this guy's show:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  The link doesn't show WIW as the bit did, but if his Joy to the World is any indication, you win hands down!  (Looks like he got tired of sequencing a few seconds into the song LOL.)

Yes those are Coro Mini Trees on the left.  They are in the Dennis Cherry configuration.
