Hey everyone
I am looking for user that used the flexible pixel strips in their display, I am having a hard time understanding
Them and this is what I would like to do my entire house in this year.
-
Used 8 of the 12 I purchased in 2011. 4 have issues.
They are not very sturdy. Move them around much and solder joints break.
I think I you can unroll them and mount them permantly to something rigid they might be OK, otherwise I can't recommend them.

I have 16 flexible strips which were purchased last week. I have them zip tied in various lengths to plastic pipe.
So far during "burn in" I have one pixel out of 1920 that has an issue (it fails to turn red when commanded).
The quality of the 16 flexible strips that I received are pretty good, although I haven't used them outside yet, so the long term reliability of mine aren't known yet.

Did you order the flex strips from Ray Wu?
If so I have a few questions.
- How long are they?
- Can They Be cut/ and if so how often?
- How many leds are there per Pixel?
- Do you have any pics?

How long are they?
Smart String Flexible strips are 4m long
Can They Be cut/ and if so how often?
i believe they can be cut every 3 leds?
How many leds are there per Pixel?
1 led per pixel, but 3 controlled per chip
Do you have any pics?
the wiki has the links to the strips, which include a picture

I used four strips outside as arches and they worked great. I put them inside clear tubing and attached to half inch conduit with big zips. Only issue is one led is green all the time but seem to work when commanded.

Do you have some pics of this setup? Interested in maybe doing something like that.

You can cut every 3 LEDs, but there are some other considerations in the cuts. Each 3 led section is not complete and cannot run stand-alone. There is a thread that discusses this and there may be a document on the wiki.

Did you order the flex strips from Ray Wu?
Yes, I ordered from Ray Wu, ordered on the Monday and they arrived on Friday morning (I live in California USA)
•How long are they?
Actual length is 13 feet
•Can They Be cut/ and if so how often?
Yes, every 100mm (4 inches)
But also see thread here about cutting and then splicing cut pieces together:

•How many leds are there per Pixel?
3 = Red, Green &Blue
•Do you have any pics?
There are some in the Wiki, but here's a couple of them from my workbench (I put a pencil by the strip to compare the size)

I used 12 this year no problems. I agree mount them on pvc or electrical conduit or somethimg rigid.
What questions do you have?

I plan on getting some u-channel and cutting it to fit my house outline then mounting
the flex strip in it. I just wonder how it would hold up to UV rays if left on the house.permantly

Do you have any pictures or drawings of what you plan to do. I want to do the same thing, but i am running into issues with needing alot of cords (to run smaller strips for segments) or less control and (running a whole strip less cords) either way i have yet to devise a way to leave them up all year.

I must be dumb... how the heck do I find the Wiki on this subject to see the pictures mentioned earlier?

No photo's or drawings yet... Havent even ordered any product yet, just looking at the rigid strips versus flex strips and thinking I can build something close out of u-channel then possibly covering it with some UV treated plexi-glass,, talking to a friend today he says he hasnt heard anything on how well the flex strips will hold up to UV rays from constant exposure from leaving them mounted on house. I guess the best thing to do is buy a strand and leave outside for a year LOL
