Title: Spacers for Lynx Express mounting into CG-1500 enclosure
Post by: taybrynn on September 03, 2011,
I just wanted to share that I've had good luck so far with these spacers I found at HD.

I used these as standoffs when mounting the LE in the CG-1500 enclosure.

You can cut them and they are stackable (kind of like legos?) ...

For $6 ... you get 25 of them ... and thats enough for 12-24 cases.  I used two doubled up on the bottom and top of each board ... and that takes 2 strips per board, so you can do 12 boards on one pack.

They are not perfect, but pretty decent.  I'm sure could be done cheaper, but I was happy with this and a lot cheaper than buying spacer in the hardware department.

I have not used this with LE's but I have had good luck just buying a foot of the stiffest plastic water hose that fits over the screw size I am using.  Can be cut as long as you need them, but I would suspect that 1/4" or 3/8" would be all you need.  The last time I did this I did not even spend $1.

I just came from Lowes.  I almost picked up another foot of it.  It is 22 cents a foot.  I skipped over it when I remembered I had a couple inches still left and only 2 more expresses to put in the cases.  That is enough to finish the year.  You can get over 100 quarter inch spacers for $1 that way.

Why do you need/use spacers?

Why do you need/use spacers?
On my board if I didn't put spacers the board wanted to flex with some of the solder joints on the underside from the unused bosses. So thought that might put too much stress on the joints and used some spacers just in case.

Either use the spacers or grind down all the other posts with a Forstner bit.

I used a spade bit that I modified so the point was shorter and thinner

I have used just a large drill bit and gone slow to remove the extra standoffs.
I have also used the old style washers for water faucets - you get about 10 for $2.

Ditto. Cheap, easy, but only works on the old style cases as far as I know. Not sure about the new cases when the holes don't line up. That's gonna take some ingenuity.

So just bust off the taller posts with pliers?

For better or worse that's all I did, nipped them all off with an angle snippers or snapped them off with pliers....

I took my Dremel tool with a cut of wheel and got rid of the ones I didn't want.  Mounts perfectly to the four I saved.
