I heard on the news that Marysville Police are on the look out for someone who pilfered a 33' foot lamp post.  They figured it was some Christmas light enthusiast from the local area who wanted to use it as a mega christmas tree.

my suggestion is that you go out and steal another one and then put them together to make a 66 footer and then they'll never recognize it   :D

Nice try, actually, I got this from the local power company.  They have a salvage yard that is open to the public, but you would never know about it unless you were told.  I have an inside source that helped me out, but anyone could go get one of these.  My source has actually been watching for one of these in good shape for a couple months.  When this one showed up he said he didn't know why it wasn't put back into service, because it is in perfect shape still.

When I picked it up, they had about 7 or 8 more of them.  Most looked like they had been hit by cars or something.  There was also a 33' fiberglass one in perfect shape.  I thought about getting that one, but it seemed a little flimsy.  They are supposed to sell these for the recycle price of the alluminum, but I got an awesome deal which I don't feel right saying ($20  ;D).

Next he'll be telling us they threw in the base or something.  Good deal though  ---  I have done a bunch of yard sales and found odds and ends for a good price ...

Well, I procrastinated on this project all summer, but I finally got to it today.

I ended up pouring my own base.  The hole is 4' deep, 2' diameter.  It took 1600 lbs of concrete mix.  The j bolts are 1" x 36" plus a little rebar thrown in for good measure  :D.

The whole project took about 6 hours which included 2 trips to "The Depot".  The only problem I ran into was running out of beer 20 minutes in  :(.

Kyle, I had no idea you were so short!   ;))

As a former member of the 30+ foot MegaTree Club, I hope you keep documenting this project.  Now, with no space and no yard, I live vicariously through you.

That is awesome Kyle.  That is what my mega tree wants to be when it grows up.
