I picked up this one;
http://www.mxmart.com/store/isolder.html
Some friends in the area who are electrical engineers had recommended it as an inexpensive but not complete crap unit that they use in their labs and recommend to students.
That beings sad mine out of the box did not heat up correctly. They are sending me a replacement soldering pencil to see if that is the problem. I'm not to concerned because they offer a five year warranty with it, which is pretty impressive.

Scott,
I actually have this exact same station. I have been using it for the past few months and the controls are good and reliable; the only thing I don't like the the flexible whip at the handle appears that is isn't going to last very long. However that is a simple fix and if you don't grab yours by that in lieu of the handle you should be good to go.

Scott,
That is the same one I bought also. I have not had a problem with it.

CB or Rainlover have you got new tips for it? If so from where? Thats seems to be the only draw back is tips may be hard to find, but I read it can use the Hakko tips have you tried them? Thanks for the responces.

I picked one up last summer. Great unit for the price. Heats up really fast and the tip holds while heat soldering pretty good.
Thanks for the link to the tips. I need to order some backups.

Scott,
I also bought 4 extra tips when I bought the unit and I have changed it only once thus far. I have however ordered more a couple of weeks ago just because I hate needing and not having. They are not the easiest replacement tips to find but since I haven't spent a tremendous amount of time looking I bet that I will be fine just as long as I stock some spares.

the tips are hakko compatible, aka 900M-xx tips.

That one looks very nice Banker, Its a little more than I need but if you have used the hot air guns before it looks like a good one.

I race RC cars and this is a very popular model with the racers. I picked one up about a month ago and have had good luck building practice kits with it.

Have it. Love it.
Got mine off ebay I think, but was from same guy as Amazon (SRA). Ordered a few extra tips at the same time. Mine seem to last forever...or at least I can still use them successfully after many LE boards. Really love the fact that it is digital. Makes soldering much easier for me as this hobby is the first real soldering that I have done.
