I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm not finding it in my searches.  I'm sure it is the user...

What are people doing to label their power cords so they know which channel it is?

I just used P-Touch labels.  Leave a "tail" on them so that you get 1 1/2 loops around the cord.

numbered 1-16 on each LE.

The labels may only last a couple of seasons before the adhesive seems to wear off due to weather.

 i have used both methods. this year i am using the p touch labels using the plastic type and putting some clear packing tape over them on the side of the plug. i found that the sharpie wears off from UV after one season.

I don't know what they're called exactly, but I like these little yellow slip-on wire numbers... less than a penny a pop.

I don't know what they're called exactly, but I like these little yellow slip-on wire numbers... less than a penny a pop.

Home Depot or Lowes or any electrical supply sells little booklets made for exactly this.  Some have numbers 1-9 and others have letters and numbers and other 1-45.  They wrap around right at the plug.

I create the labels for the channels in a spread sheet,  print it on both sides, laminate it, put a hole in each laminated tag with a single hole punch and zip tie it to the cable.

Dad and I bought some white shrink wrap pre cut to 1/2" long I think. He wrote the numbers on the wrap with a permant marker let it dry and then slide them over the cords down to the female plug end and shrunk them on it. Turned out really nice and was not expensive.

I use zip cord with vampire plugs so I just use a sharpie and write the number on the plug.

I've been meaning to try a variation on RJ's way.

Clear heatshrink over the top of a paper label.....

for the moment though it's just permanent marker on top of white gaff tape (old roadies trick)

That's what I ended up doing - using a sharpie.  Not the most elaborate, but it works.

I used a sharpie on some of my cords for controllers that lived on the roof all season and some had to be redone after only 2 seasons.

But I think that would apply to just about any marking technology, since the weather fades everything.

If you use a dremmel on female outlet, it makes a fairly permanent number.  Just don't go too deep.

Fill it in with a contrasting crayon - not sure how it will hold up under the outside temps...
