Smart string came apart.
« on: December 09, 2012, »
One of my smart strings came apart in two places.
One of the wires came out of the node.
Is there a way to repair it?

Honestly, your best bet is to replace the node with a spare one, or shorten the string by 1 node.
Nothing has to be re-programmed by shortening by 1.....or 10.

I disected a node just to see what it was. You will have to remove the outer silicone jacket and that can be a pain to effectively re-seal.

I agree best solution is to replace the node.

What I found is if you look closely at the nodes you will notice the good ones have the colored wire shielding embedded in the solid epoxy stuff, ones that will break the color shielding didn't get down into the epoxy.

Can I put the broken ones at the end of two strings if the output wire is the one broken?

I would connect the smart strings to a rope. They are not design to support their own weight and movement of your horse.

Just use wire ties or tape to connect them to the rope.

I connect the nodes to the tack with ties.
I was just laying string out for testing out of the box Factory defect.
I should have gotten extra spares.

If your mega cheap like me, it is possible to take off the outer jacket, repair it, then reseal it with multiple coats of liquid electrical tape. I have a handful like this that are holding up nicely.

I go to cut out the bad nodes and more break off. Now a total of four.
I think some one should put in WIKI that when you order smart strings
order some extras.

How do get the rubber off the node end

Did you email Ray Wu and tell him your problem? I would think he would send you replacements. Of course it might be too late to help you out this year.

I use banding strap for my mega tree strings. I put  D rig on each end. I also use it to connect the two ends of my arches. I have attached some not very big (sorry) pics of the Mega tree string and the arch design.
