A Noobie's first year!
« on: December 24, 2010, »
This was my first year with a Christmas light show. Here is a video You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.

It was a good learning experience. I was only rained out 2 nights, what is the deal with that? I live in Utah and we are suppose to have snow not rain. November is not to late to start, just don't expect to accomplish everything you planned. I didn't finish assembling my SSR4's until the first week of December. I learned that you do not need to have each light perfectly aligned, most people will not notice. I learned that even with my limited experience I can assemble electronics and have them work afterwards. I built 10 SSR4's and had only 1 bad solder joint. I am having an issue with 2 different channels both coming on at the same time, I am thinking I may have a bridged solder joint, haven't looked yet.

Sequencing is hard! Thanks to those that have shared their sequences I had a show this year. I downloaded several sequences and adapted those to my layout.

I am really looking forward to Christmas 2011. So much to do, so little time to do it.

Nice work and welcome to the addiction...   ;D

So what does the wife think with the "couple lights" you put up this year?

Good job.
Welcome to the addiction.
I started last January and for 10 months, my wife would pat me on the head and say "That's nice dear." When I got the display up and running, she was totally surprised and amazed. She put together an open house for all of our friends and neighbors and we had a great party. During the party, I heard her telling people that next year we were going to add lights here and there and make the mega tree bigger and make the reindeer animated and add more songs and ........
It took a while, but I think she has caught the fever.

Nice!  My wife was also the same.  "That's nice dear".   Kind of like "what ever trips your trigger".  But when it was all said and done she was amazed at the show.  She invited her friends over to see "OUR" light show.  <pop..

Anyway, good job on your light show.

Nice Job!
Yes, there is a lot of nagging and chiding throughout the year "you don't have enough lights yet?", but they all come around to the right frame of mind when you finally throw the switch.

She loves the lights and wants more. She has even suggested a couple things for next year!
