Happy Easter from your LSH Friends!

Happy Easter!

DLA and LSH did a great job in 2012 of holding the very best event for everyone in the holiday hobby. Because Easter is a time to celebrate new life, it seems appropriate to look ahead to the largest event of the year again.   Can you believe it's only about 100 days until the Academy doors open?  July 12th is coming sooner than we can all imagine and then we will all once again converge on the Lone Star Convention Center for three days of fun, education, and socialization. New vendors (more than ANY other year), tons of classes (including the DIY Expo- set up by RJ and his team of experts) and instructors are coming your way so don’t miss out. Registration is still open, but on Monday April 1st (tomorrow!) the price will increase (for the first time since June of 2012!) so if you've been thinking of registering for that you should do so TODAY. We also want to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to attend our next workgroup.  It may not be possible for folks from outside of Texas but our “old-fashioned” workgroups used to be very popular and saw folks from all over the state (and sometimes beyond) come together to focus on a particular topic(s). Over the last year or so we have held smaller, more social events: Supper Clubs and workparties have been held and while people have enjoyed those times we’re ready to hold a workgroup that we hope everyone will learn from and enjoy. The hobby has changed over the years. In 2008 people used one or two technologies and the predominant solution for animated lighting was Light-O-Rama. Since that time we have seen the growth of the DIY (as evidenced by this very forum!) and, perhaps more importantly, the creation of several other powerful software solutions. Because of this it becomes harder to create a topic-driven workgroup that many people can benefit from. We think we've come up with something that will appeal to many different people, regardless of technology, hardware, software, or experience level.

We will be holding the workgroup on April 20th in Richmond, TX (southwest of Houston). Our topic for the day is going to be “Audio Solutions and Secrets”. Our key presenter will be Joe Rogers, who has years of experience in recording and has taught an incredibly popular class at the last two Academy events that deals with the free Audacity program. While Joe has shared a lot of great info in his one hour block during the Academy, it never leaves time for detailed questions or for actually taking a song (or songs) and doing the editing immediately. Joe is going to be there to help with this. In addition, we’re going to show you how a program called “Breakaway” can help you make your audio sound great to your audience by normalizing the levels of them all. We are also working to bring some info to everyone about transmitters and antennas. Lastly, we’re going to have the first “LSH Music Swap”. Bring your audio files and let’s share with each other. Who knows? Your new favorite holiday song might be waiting for you at the Swap (no music can be sold, only traded/shared). The cost for this workgroup will only be $5 per person so that we can have snacks and drinks. We’re hoping to hold lunch-time pot luck early in the workgroup so that we have some good things to munch on throughout the day.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login (yes, registration is required. We will be having drinks and some light snacks on hand and we need to know how many people will attend).  We hope you can join us for the workgroup and/or Academy if you're interested.

So now go find those dyed eggs. Search for the treats that the Easter Bunny has hidden for the kids. Put aside your diets and exercise for one day and treat yourself to some jelly beans or chocolate. Whatever your holiday tradition this time of year, enjoy your time with your family and have a Happy Easter.
